Bubbly bit on tendon

Hi,

We went to look at a horse yesterday and as I was running my hands down its legs I came across what felt like a bit of a bubble on the inside of its leg about half way below its knee and above the fetlock and it moves. It is definately not supposed to be there. Does anyone know what it might be?!!

Could have been a nodule formed on the tendon sheeth due to a recent tear... my achilles tendon had these when I buggered it last year.

Alternatively it could be anything! Was it specifically located over the tendon?

As you run your hands down the back of the leg either your thumb or second finger run down the inside. It was located in the middle behind the cannon bone so don't think it was the SDFT. Does that make sense?!!!

Are you positive it isn't just the knobby bit at end of the splint bone?

To be honest I don't know much about it, but if it is in any way a fluid-filled lump associated with the tendon, I'd be worried.

It could of course be something random like a scar from a knock of some sort, or maybe a bloodvessel... Was the horse sound?

No def. not end of splint bone because it moved and it was definately like a little bubble. Horse not sound as it turns out!!

My brood mare had these "bubbly bits" on a front tendon when she injured it recently; she had torn it previously, so obviously had a weakness there. They weren't hard like a bone outgrowth, and I think "bubbly" is the best description! Personally, based on our experience with Beth, I wouldn't touch anything which had a suspicion of an old tendon injury, unless all you wanted it for was quiet hacking ....
