Another rug question...I need new medium and heavy turnout rugs for my Warmblood mare.
I am a faithful supporter of horseware but unfortunately the fit is not quite right for her so I am branching out and searching elsewhere. I have heard good things about Premier Equine, Bucas and Fal pro but since I have never used them i know nothing about their different fits and models. they are pretty expensive makes but i dont mind spending if, like Rambo rugs, they are made to last.
Advice please....

Bucas are brilliant very durable, mine is about to do its 3rd year and looks fantastic. They also have a liner so you can put it on a wet horse rather then having to wait ages for her to dry.

I do like the premier equine and the fal pro but they don't have the lining like the Bucas so I always get a bucas now.

Bucas! The stay dry lining in their Smartex range is brilliant. :) Can you borrow one to try on as the fit is different to Horseware (hopefully different in a good way so that it fits your neddy) and my mare needs a 6ft Bucas and a 6ft3 for HW.

ETA. My friend has Fal for her big chested Welsh D and she has nothing but praise for them but they are too big around the chest to fit my mare.

FAL. my heavyweight ones are now about to do their 14th-ish winter and look a year or two old. Never rub, never leak. Well worth the money.
I have one Bucas rug and it is absolutely rubbish and leaks like a sieve.
Never tried PE rugs but have been seriously impressed by their boots!

Fal Fal fal all the way, I have four horses all with a FAL wardrobe. All now at least 7 years old and still going strong. All differing types of horses, one ex racer, one ID cob, one a DWBxTB and one gangly 3 year old. All fit beautifully. All my turnouts have necks and I have never in the years I have owned them had one rug rub from my Fals.

I also like the Bucas, but I find they are not quite deep enough for my 17'2 but nice rugs, with a good chest. I have had Horseware rugs in the past but find them too narrow in front, especially with diagonal fastening and they rub. Good quality but wrong shape.

My middleweight are all Fal - the Bulldog - with, and without necks. I have had them years, two of them over ten years. They come up like new, and any new horses that need medium rugs get the Fals. Never used their heavies, as have always had Rambo Plus, and been just as pleased with them.

Another vote for Fal here as well, although I have got a Premiere Equine heavyweight too. I've had both my Fal's for 8+ years and they never slip, leak or rub and every year they come up like new after cleaning. The PE rug is also good but they size up quite large (generally need a size smaller than normal) and the outer doesn't seem to wear as well as the Fal. The fastenings are also not quite as good. However, if the budget was tight and I couldn't afford a Fal they would be a good substitute.

I love Fal and Bucas - have both in the ponios' wardrobes. Hardwearing and well fitting on a range of neds. Used a PE on a livery, it had liners and I found it fiddly and awkward to handle.

Always had fal and love them!! My mare came with a fal, was already used so god knows how old it was then!! And it's lasted through to last winter, so I have had it 10 years!! You do get what you pay for, although I had heard on the grapevine that fal has recently been bought by Loveson, and the quality has gone downhill??? I bought a cheiftain a couple of years ago and the fit is a little tight around the shoulders compared to the older ones, but quality of that one seems fine, but I bought a fal pro thick turnout (I think it was the tasker??) and have not been as impressed with that one.

PE rugs, I've heard good reviews but again some people seem to be saying the quality has gone downhill recently???

Bucas, I've only ever had dealings with one of their rugs, they just don't seem to stock them in many places? And the lining detached from the rug and stuck out the bottom getting soaked and leached up, leaving the horse wet and cold, but that was some time ago, so maybe whereas all other firms have gone down in quality, they have gone up!!!???

If you're looking at this money, look at the rambo line, all of their lines, amigo, rhino and rambo I cannot rate highly enough, the only one I would advise against is the amigo 600d as it does tear easily, but the 1200d is tough as houses!!! And the amigo range is not that expensive either!!

I haven't used PE or Buccas, but am a fan of FAL. I've just 'retired' a medium weight after 10 years of sterling service. Fitted brilliantly, never moved or leaked.

But as someone mentioned above they have been sold to Loveson as their parent company went into receivership. Can only hope the new owners don't change the quality.

I am a huge fan of Bucas rugs and can't rate them highly enough. I love the fact that thier rugs do such a temperature range too. None of mine have leaked at all, and lasted really really well.

The PE rugs are good too, no experience of FAL I am affraid.

Thanks soooooo much everyone... all very helpful. i'm so sad that she doesnt fit my beloved rambo rugs but it seems that all is not lost and im lookingforward to trying someting new.
