I was thinking of buying one for Beau, he currently has his lightweight on but its so hard to know what to put on at the mo, because although it keeps pouring down, it then gets out quite warm.

So just wondering what the rug is like, is it really waterproof and does it really reflect the sun and keep them cool??

I have one, its good, very tough and waterproof, not so goood if you have one with big shoulders you will need a size up

Sounds like a gimmick. If you have a totally waterproof lightweight rug on him already, why buy another which does the same job?

Because although its a 'lightweight' rug, it is still quite heavy duty material, a masta one, and its great for when its peeing down and chilly, but when the sun comes out he sweats in it.

I dont want to leave him naked when its constantly hammering down and then stopping, just got the weight back on him again, and it can still be quite cold.

I have another lightweight one, a cheapy Rhinegold, it IS light, but not very waterproof!

i was just about to post this... my horse has no gadgets but i dont have a lightweight rug when she goes out i dont rug her.... but this rain and then the sun its been awfull!!

It looks like they are using all the latest materials used in the oudoor clothing market at the moment, which would be why the rugs are so expensive. Personally, I would buy one if I had the money and I do believe they would be more breathable than a lot of lightweights on the market. They also have the staydry lining, so if the horse does get hot, he doesnt stay wet once the weather cools down. Only my opinion, but I've done quite a bit of research into materials lately and these rugs look pretty good.

Thanks jumpthemoon, I dont own any Bucas rugs but have heard they are very good.

The sunshower is £60, so although not the cheapest lightweight, I woudl rather pay that I think than £45 on a summer Amigo for something that doesnt keep the rain out!

Ive had a look on the Bucas website and the rug does sounds fab, but they all do on the websites dont they, thats why I thought it woudl be good to hear some first hand opinions.

They do (or should) - or you can buy their LW rug (which is exactly the same) but 1200 denier rather than the 600 in the summer.

Is that quite breathable AmyMay, I had the pastel coloured one for my last mare and it wasnt very waterproof at all so Ive stayed away from them since then.

I like Beau's Masta one as they are very deep, some other brands come up too short, however I think his is the check tech, sounds familiar, and its really heavy for a lightweight.

I think so - Amy had one - but I have to be honest, she really only wore it when the weather was pants, so not 100% sure.

I've just bought a Mark Todd one for Thumper - which at this rate, I can't see being removed until bloomin Christmas!

eek I know, this weather is scary!

At the mo I seem to be putting rugs on, whipping them off as it gets warm, it was hot here this morning, then comes the rain!

Beau also seems to be part hippo, so a good lightweight makes life so much easier! This is after being rugless in the rain for an hour.
