Bucking Help

About 4 weeks ago my tb started bucking in canter in the school & hacking. I got a physio out & she said that he had pulled a glute.. also had his saddle checked & restuffed. He was given a week off work & then just hacked for a couple of weeks. Took him in the menage & cantered him in an outline on both reins & was fine. Went in the school last night & he was really messing about in the wind & just wanted to go & buck in canter.. Took him in the indoor school & cantered him a few times & when he bucked kicked him forward after the second attempt it stopped. He doesn't do it on the lunge and is happy on both reins (he wasn't ok on one rein when he pulled the muscle.) He looks in absolute peak condition & is full of beans..
Would you say he has learned that a buck means he gets out of work or that his muscle is still playing him up??
 
If he has been working with a problem that has caused him to buck,showing his discomfort a treatment followed by rest is not going to have totally resolved the issue.
After physio horses usually have a day or two off followed by a gradually build up to help strengthen the muscles.
Your horse seems to have had three weeks without schooling which may have been helpful to him but only if stretching properly while hacking. When my horses have had treatment they will have another check within two weeks and should be back in full work by then,unless injury prevents this.
I would get him looked at again and get him working long and low to try and encourage him to use himself more.
If he continues bucking it may be that there is another underlying problem.
 
Yes what you are saying makes perfect sense..infact more sense than what the physio told me to do... so in that case do you think i should keep him out the school & get him re-checked or start gradually building up his work from tonight & get him checked as well? Thanks for your reply
 
I would do some school work ,but maybe not canter for a few days and arrange for another check soon.Get the horse really working long and low before picking up, also stretch at the end of a session when cooling off.
 
Hold you kneck strap and kick on :) They usually get out of the naughty habit once they learn you aren't scared, but you don't get wound up (is that right? or have I just said you don't get lots of cuts and injuries? lol) I only say this because you've ruled out pain being the cause. I would also make sure you work him to make the muscle he had trouble with stronger, so it doesn't cause pain again.

Well I went ahead and had a half hour schooling lesson tonight, he was goof as gold, no bucking etc etc.. think he just had to get out of the habit..
