Daisy has an annoying habit of almost always bucking for the first few strides when we gallop out on a hack. She does then tend to settle but it takes alot of the fun out of it. I don't mind the odd 'weehee' buck but she gets her head right down and its a bit hairy. She doesn't come close to unsettling me *thank God for evil RS ponies* but I'd rather she didn't do it. We're going hunting for the first time ever next week and I would love it to be a nice calm, sensible affair with me in complete control.

Any tips or do some horses always just do this?

My horse always does it if there are more than two horses, I just tend to keep him relaxed on a nice long rein for as long as possible so he doesnt find it too exciting. I find if I ask him to go up a gear rather than letting him follow the pace of the horse infront it does help.

I always give him a little smack with the whip if he does it and shout NO. He is learning but he still chucks the odd one in.

I am getting my friend to take Baron for his first hunt soon as I have never been before and I am a little nervous of taking him

Hope you have fun on your hunt.

My horse does this too but I know it's out of total rebellion! If she's in front she's fine but if some one else is she gallops like a nutter with her head between her legs bucking as and when and it's scary! I wish it didn't unsettle me but I know I have NO control! As soon as she's in front we regain a calm controlled pace and I have breaks again!

Twisted wire gage a few times will keep her head up.

Did your mother never tell you that if you haven't got anything nice to say don't say anything at all?

my girly does this too sometimes, as she is really compact and chunky i have to really sit up and push her forward- i would never drop my contact, as the minute she her head down it goes towards her knees, and then i am done for!!
My advise- sit up push forward and keep a consistant contact.
I find it funny now and laugh but that as i know i can cope using the above strategy.
good luck
