Does anyone elses horse buck when eating their feed ? Every time my horse has a hard feed, he bucks like crazy for the first couple of mouthfuls. I've only owned him a year but known him for about 5 and he has apparently always done this. I've never really thought about it but he nearly put the window through in his stable the other day (has wooden boards across it) so might become a bit worrying !! He's fine when you put his feed in, makes a few funny noises and faces but not aggressive. I do however have to tip his feed out on the floor or he tips it everywhere over in stable and doesn't hardly get any as it all gets in his bedding. He's 13 now.

A pony we have had for about 15 years has always kicked out when he's eating. He particularly enjoyed it when my sister took him to college and he got to clattter his hooves on some nice brickwork - think he loved the sound! Most of the time he is fed in the field though - and stil kicks out everytime, he is 23 now.....

It could stem from when he was younger & had to defend his feed. It is not long before it becomes a habit. My yearling started doing it, so now he is fed on his own, & he has stopped.

My horse has always bucked when he is eating, he does it wether there is a horse in the next stable or not I know all his history and think it's just a funny little quirk, it's proper heels above the head bucking, I think he's just enjoying his food he whinnies when you put his food in the manger then bucks! He's a TB. 9yrs old

Our old clydie used to pick up a knee to chest height then circle a hoof around for a minute or two then swap... used to call it the dance of the copperfield (his name) never gave him or us any trouble so didn't used to think anything of it.
