Ditch the whip. Use a long schooling whip and tickle his back/belly end to aid your legs. When i intro a whip with my youngsters/troubled horses i find a open but enclosed area so the horse doesnt feel trapped... put my reins in one hand, turning the horse in cricle and with other swish the whip every where NOT HITTING OR TOUCHING THE HORSE... he will quickly move but because your circeling he will feel hes listening to every thing inside telling him to move and settle once hes relised there no pain. Horses buck as a bluff... You try to take control by hitting him... he bluffs back by bucking... he doesnt have respect.

Hmmm, not sure if that's a badly worded genuine question or whether you're a troll! Apologies if the former!

Assuming you're serious, he is obviously telling you that he doesn't appreciate you smacking him. Have you tried giving him a gentler tap with a schooling whip (rather than taking hand of rein & using short whip). Alternatively, have you given him a sharp kick to ask him to repond more sharpely.

I do hope no-one suggest you use spurs - if they do, please ignore them, unless recommended by your instructor.

Until you get this sorted, lose the whip.

Use your legs to ask for more momentum, but be sure to allow your horse forward with your hands too, and give your horse a pat when it does as you ask. If you kick on (or use a whip) and don't allow your horse to go forward, it can only go up. in front or behind.

It may be that you just have a very resistant horse, in which case your legs will need to be quite strong, but do not resort to the whip until you have the horse moving off your leg every time you ask...in fact try not to use the whip as anything other than a gentle reinforcement of your leg - you may find you don't really need it.

Find a good instructor

Mine used to do the same so I took a standard ength whip and tied an old fillet string to the end, obviously no clips !!! He cant see it coming, is very gently, more of a tickle to him and he responds to t brilliantly. e.g. no more bucking
