I will try to keep this short in length and heavy in pictures and gushyness!

After Toby's poor prognosis of returning to ridden work after his op, I had started to look for another one to run alongside him with the intention of either retiring him or loaning him as a plod. Unfortunately this was not meant to be and he became quite lame and distressed by just being a field ornament so I had to make the difficult decision to have him PTS. Just before I had the news, I had been to see a lovely cob not too far from me, ticked 95% of my boxes but felt a lot of feelings that were mostly guilt related that was making me hesitate buying him. After 3 rides I decided to take the punt and figured if I became too sad with the whole thing I could just get someone else to look after him until I felt OK.

He's been here a week now and honestly I am so glad that I did! He is an absolute dream, such a gentleman and has been so easy to do. Toby can never be replaced but Buddy (full name Budweiser) is doing a great job at reminding me why I fell in love with keeping horses. He is an 8 year old, 15'1 Irish Cob and I cannot wait to see how things go! I am waiting for the saddle fitter to come next week to get us kitted up so we have just been doing lots of in hand hacks and a bit of lunging in the school to suss each other out.

As no introduction thread is complete without photos, I've included some of his first week below!

First 5 minutes of being in the field - his new friends loved him instantly

Wow, he's gorgeous
Sorry for your loss and no horse will ever fill Toby's place in your heart but now you have a new lovely friend to help you get through the sorrow and look forward

What a beautiful boy! Sometimes the best thing is to have a new friend to help guide us through the darkest spots. I know, because there was little more than a month between me losing Alice and getting Tudor. It took a long time for me to love him, or to stop feeling guilt when I saw his head poking over her stable door, but he filled up all of the empty hours after she'd gone, and I really did need that.

Welcome Buddy, very handsome boy!
Something I’ve learnt over the years, parenting animals: they each carve their own unique place in your heart and your heart has infinite capacity to hold them all. Enjoy your new friend.

What a gorgeous boy. So sorry for your loss... I bet Toby would be happy to know you've got a new equine friend to help you heal.

I did similar and bought a progject to keep me sane while mine recovered. The day he came home it became clear mine had to be PTS. I felt awful for a while but it was actually the best thing I could ever have done. Hes a funny, quirky little horse but hes the horse of a lifetime for me and 18 months down the line I cant imagine life without him!

Aww he seems like such a lovely boy! I'm really sorry for your loss. Horses are the best healers and Toby would be glad you have a new horsey pal to help you get through such a hard time<3

All hopes for a really fun season after the stress you've been through. Lovely boy.

What a lovely boy! And fab that he's settled in the field so quickly. Looking forward to more updates.

He is a wonderful horse! We used to own Buddy a few years ago (before Zoe) - we had been sold him as a 7 year old, although it turned out later he must have only been about 3 or 4. Even so he was absolutely bombproof and a star. It's lovely to come across your post and see he has such a loving home xx
