Okay where does everyone buy their jodhpurs, baselayers and gillets from.. now I know I'm riding on the regular I don't have any of these bits and one look at the big sites and my bank account is already making me cry šŸ˜‚

I'm going to find some goggles too I think we'll see how well we get on with those. Have an idea on a helmet I like and will be getting one fitted along with a body protector at the tack shop šŸ™

Baselayer wise - have a look at the high street shops, Primark, Matalan, M&S - all good value and usually as good as the equestrian companies.

Spend your money on a proper waterproof coat - that said depending on what size you are, I've got a decent musto coat that needs a new home...

Another vote for Vinted.

Look for non-equestrian brands like Under armour, caharatt and seeland for warm and outdoorsy clothes.

If you don't mind saying what sizes you need people on here might have things that are suitable for you too. It's a generous place

Equestrian stuff is a complete rip off. I buy base layers from sports direct or amazon. You won't be able to avoid wearing jods at the racing school but there are plenty of cheap pairs out there.

Goggles - depends how big or small your head is. I can't wear Kroops or Ornella ones as they are too big to fit under my hat and above my nose (I have a kids size head šŸ˜‚ great when it comes to buying hats as it's cheaper šŸ˜‚) they are handy when you have go sit in kickback but not an essential piece of kit for what you will be doing.

Make sure you have a pair of waterproof trousers if your going in December. They dont need to be riding out ones. The best way to deal with chillblanes is to prevent them so keep your legs warm and dry.

I think the racing school gives you a coat? But best take one with you that you can ride in anyway.

Gloves are pretty essential for riding in the rain. It makes the reins so much easier to hold. You dont want thick ones as you will holding a lot of rein in each hand when bridged. A couple of pairs of the Ā£3-4 pimple palm ones will see you through. No need for expensive ones for now.

Regatta is so reasonably priced and I really love their stuff. (For fleeces and body warmers.)

Donā€™t buy too much at once. Maybe a couple of each to do you. Once there you might decide you want a different brand/ other types would suit you better.

Also Christmas is coming up so itā€™s a chance to bulk up on stuff you want/need. If you see a more expensive item youā€™d love then maybe ask for money to put towards it from any gift givers šŸ˜ itā€™s always nice to have ā€œgoodā€ horse clothes as well as daily stuff.

Keep an eye out for a car boot sale. I sold a load of breeches 3 pairs for a tenner as I simply wanted rid and they were good quality and in good condition. Someone got a good bargain!

However, I wouldn't buy too much before going, as you may find you want different when you are there.

I like the semi-waterproof gloves for stable chores, where the palms and fingers have been dipped in rubber, but they are cheaper from a non horse shop. Also, a thicker pair of gloves. I sometimes get commercial freezer ones.

Regatta stuff is good value. I like their mid layers and they only cost Ā£10. You can buy base layers from Primark and I also got one of my favourite yard gilets from there- itā€™s warm and has a hood but is lightweight enough not to be too bulky under a coat. Only cost me Ā£15 and you can buy a version without a hood.

I tend to get my jodhpurs from Decathlon. If you're small enough, you can get the kid's sized ones as they're cheaper (I wear 14 yo in their jods). I love their fleece lined ones, they keep you warm and are super comfy - but they're terrible when wet. They also have the same in waterproof which is better for rainy weather.
Base layers and socks I got from Lidl, they were marketed for skiers, so keep me really warm.

Multiple pairs of gloves because hands in wet gloves on a cold morning is torture.

The cheap pimple ones for riding but I but gardening gloves for chores and ski gloves for when it's really cold.

Base layers from Uniqlo for me. I wear the thermal leggings under normal jods in winter.

Good socks make or break a winter's day!

For jodhpurs I tend to scour the various websites and find whoever has the best deal on- gs equestrian are usually pretty good, I've had some good deals from the saddlery shop too.
These are Ā£10- only a size 26" left though and I don't know if yours will need to be plain or if check will be okay.

Mole Valley stock Dare 2 Be clothes thatā€™s supposed to be fitness stuff but I bought a top that is essentially a base layer and it was considerably cheaper than the horsey version.
