This is my mare Buffy, she is a rising 10 Dutch Warmblood. How does she look and what are you opinions on her conformation? Be as harsh as you like :)

Sorry for the pic overload but its just so you can see what shes like. In one pic she looks veeery crop high! Shes not that crop high, just slightly :p

I'm not an expert in conformation and you already know she is croup high so that is the obvious one done with. Possibly something funny with her hocks? Someone else must know!

Condition wise though she looks absolutely super and she is a very pretty girl. And your stables are so posh too!

Overall, she's very pleasing to the eye. She's pretty well put together and is in superb condition. I love her head and neck. Couple of confo faults that jump out at me - she's back at the knee and has quite an upright shoulder and upright pasterns. In a couple of the pics, she looks like she stands over herself.

I'd say that she's slightly sickle hocked, rather than following a straight line from the point of the buttock-hock-fetlock, on most of these the fetlock come under her, not terribly, but to my eye it's there.
She has good front legs, though I'd prefer to see then set a few degrees forward from the shoulder joint and she is slightly over at the knee (again, not horribly, but it's there).
Her barrel, head and neck are set nicely, though personally I'd rather her barrel were a little slimmer (which is nothing to do with weight by the way, hers looks great).

Jesstickle - Yes I agree with you I think she could have more angle behind, I think she is a big straight :)

PoppyAnderson - Haha yes she is very upright infront, she can grow to about 20hh when she just puts her head up! And she deffo uses it against you when you ride little madam!

Golddustsara - My little TB was PTS last September :( Turns out all of her behaviour issues cam back to a slipped disk just behind her saddle area and she had been in pain for years. Vets where I used to live pretty much called me paranoid but when I moved to Cumbria after about 2 months of constant gentle work she still wasn't right and the fantastic vet diagnosed it straight away. 2nd opinion vet agreed (Wanted to get a second opinion before I had her PTS.. for peace of mind). I couldn't bear to be without a horsey so I bought Buffy a few weeks after Poutu was PTS.

Swinghorse - She does have a tendancy to stand with her legs under her, it took ages to get her to stand like this but me and my instructor are working on it :) But because of her conformation it will probibily never be perfect! I think her barrel is from when she was 4, she bred a foal in Holland. She does lift it when ridden but when she is stood on the yard she just lets it all hang out!! :)

She seems well put together. Slightly short pasterns. She seems a little.....short in the shoulder? I don't know how to put it in confo terms....I guess this might be to do with her standing under herself, rather than standing up? But that might just be subject to how she was standing at the time. Not confo, but I'd say she needs to build a little more muscle xoxo

NikkiMariet - I agree with you, she deffo needs more topline across her back and more muscle along her quaters. When I got her she was in a grackle and hanging cheek and I think somewhere along the way they have been scared to put their leg on her and just reeled her head in. Shes now cavesson in a loosering snaffle! We are getting there! Her paces are alot looser and her neck muscle has improved alot! Still a long way to go though! :)

.

Sorry, that's not quite what I meant! Upright in front (shoulder and pasterns) refers to the angles, rather than anything connected to height.

So sorry to hear this :-( Glad you had Buffy to get you through it

i like her in so many ways but somthing is niggling me about her near hind. There is not a single photo of her looking at ease on it . probably nothing but thats the leg to look after.

I think its the way she is stood and she has massive wingalls behind! (At least I hope thats what it is :D ) She has been in 24/7 most of the winter so she is stiff at the moment and definately more so on that leg. Think its just her weaker hind quater :)
