Buffy is a lot happier now, jsut getting frustrated by the very restricted exercise. I have spoken again to the vet and listened to her more rationally. The problem is actually Inververtebral disc degeneration resulting in proplapse of interdigital disc material. I now have to gradually reduce her painkillers over the next week and hope this flare up has settle down. It does mean she will have to take things a little steadier but hopefully the flare ups will be controlled with either painkillers or acupuncture (not using that this time as she seems to be improving without). Weirdly, her half sister suffered from the same condition (vet says it is not known to be hereditary other than GSDs being prone to back problems

) She developed problems at a far younger age and had surgery but carried on to lead an active life until sadly cancer claimed her. I am not sure if I would consider surgery as Buffy is 8 now, and vet says certainly not bad enough to be an option at this stage. So I am feeling quite positive, just hope she stays comfy when she starts coming off the painkillers. And M88 if you read this, don't worry she is really bright today, and Jac is the expert on dealing with this (it is the same thing Witch had), so can give us loads of advice

Glad she is doing better, i will have to see what i can find out on intervertebral disc thingy. Give her and eve hugs from me (and all the others). Oh and lucy says hope she feels better soon, she was sad to hear she was poorly.

It hasn't snowed like it was supposed to in liv, and this essay is killing me. I have now written 8,600 words (was sposed to be 5000) and am still not finished. I started before lu etc, and they've all finished.

It's always so nice to get good updates, it makes me sit here and feel really happy.

Don't know if you need this info, but just in case, my experience, that only is that of an interested amateur, is that you need to watch her muscles. They often try to relieve the area where they have pain or feel weaker, by compensating and use muscles in other areas of the body more, which leads to even less muscles around the already weak area.
But if you once a day, every other day, give her a little massage before you go out for a walk, and/or do stretching after a walk, it can help her keep and maybe even build up the muscles around her weaker area. Because if the bones or disc's that isn't quite what they should, is surrounded and supported by strong muscles it should make a big, positive difference.

Hope you can continue giving us good updates, from Sweden.
