Thumper is broken! I brought him in last night and he was just hopping lame. I suspect that he's done a tendon, and although there is no heat in the leg, there is some localised soft swelling on the inside of his cannon bone.

Vet comming this afternoon - but I could really do with some positive vibes, as I'm convinced it's the worst............

Throwing a splint? Keep us posted and a big hug to Thumper

Donkey went hopping lame before Christmas, no reason, no heat no swelling - four days of box rest and sound as a pound (missed Boxing Day hunting though

No - don't think it's a splint - the bunting will be out if it is though........

Interesting about Donkey. Wonder what that was about???

Any heat lower down - abscess?

[/ QUOTE ]
No - nothing.

I'm going to cling on to the 'splint' theory..........

Got the vet at 3.00 and hopefully he'll be able to give me better news than I've been expecting so far.

Sorry to hear about Thumper. I have my fingers crossed for you, hopefully he will have just knocked himself or its an abscess brewing. Its certainly the weather for getting a bit of gravel in feet

SPLINTS: [ QUOTE ]
lameness with heat, pain and swelling in the area between the splint bone and cannon bones.

[/ QUOTE ] Exactly what Thumper has.

I shall stop being hysterical now, and try to be a little more reasonable.

If it is a splint I have some Enelbin Paste left over from Frank if you need it.

Thanks J, that's really kind of you. I'll get in touch tomorrow if I need some.

cheers

Cairo came in very similar, no heat but a little swelling between fetlock and canon - vet has now found he has a windgall on his left hind and has said any more playing like a 3 year old in slippery mud will cause damage to the tendon. Being a hoolie is also not helping his old joints.

He is now on bute and having to stay in and be exercised in the school until he is more sound before he can go out as our fields are very wet and heavy. He and Stinky are now seperated unless under supervision until they go onto the summer paddock.

I also have gel to rub into the leg for his joints and his left hind is now clipped - looks like a Mohican x monk as I have left the back fringe of feather and below the fetlock on.

Hope it is nothing too serious for Thumper.

Now, you cannot know til the vet gets there so no point in worrying yourself, it is probably a splint coming up as he is young isnt' he?
Everyone instantly thinks tendon but there are a million other things it could be.

You've had a rough few months, not really surprising that you're panicing tbh.

Im 99% sure amymay only checks the net from work so i guess we have to wait til tomorrow for an update.

Hope it went well for you!
