Ok so for those who don't remember I work rode for a local trainer for a couple of months between jobs and despite being a practical sort I fell in love with buglet. 8 months after I left that job to resume my career he came home. I've now had him 6 months but due to problems with my legs we've taken it slowly.
So he has some topline coming and I thought I might feel safer in a nice jumping saddle with knee rolls than my bareback pad when he humps his back or bucks so I borrowed one. Love it. Much more stable and he isn't quite so over sensitive to my every muscle twitch! Second hand one will be fitted next week so I can return borrowed one and i'm hoping shiny new one i've been stroking at the tack shop for months will arrive at xmas ;-)
He works nicely no back humps or anything so seems he's now ready for a big boy saddle!
So, the update. Just near our yard today there was a fun ride. Before I hit 30 if I couldn't jump it I wasn't interested but a bad fall, getting older and a reoccuringly broken pony means the brave pants don't work so well these days. From reports on here I wasn't sure how well named said fun ride would be but it was in aid of the air ambulance so off we went. Pony has an outing planned and I thought buglet might like it, so I dressed him in his best and 3 of us went exploring.
The route was lovely, well organised, we didn't get lost and plenty of nice canters. We overtook a couple of groups but politely with no trouble caused.
As I cantered along a particularly nice stretch at a less than sedate but controlled pace with a huge grin on my face I was so proud of my gangly stressed out baby.
He is only a baby and he's come so far in 6 months despite my rubbish riding with my legs. He tries so hard. He's now consented to wear a treed saddle and back humping or bucking is very rare. A couple of months ago I wondered if loving him was enough or if he might be too much for me, he's certainly a lot bigger than I need! Today we felt like a proper pair and I was able to relax and enjoy him.
No point to post just some of u said u liked hearing how we were doing it being a love story and all! Smarties for all if u got this far. :-D
