Hello

Just wondering if anyone else has done rehab to assist with this or if anyone has done exercises and improved this.

Essentially my 8 year old horse is put together OK but the committee put more thought into the front end and I'm left with weak back end.

I aim is to get the back end stronger so school work becomes easier...I am aware that I can get a bit fixated by what the front end looks like and I need to ensure I am riding the back end but specific exercises would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Bumping it up for you. Pole work. Hill work if you have hills. There are good exercises you can find on line. Your physio may have some in hand ideas.

Hill work is excellent, i started and still do a LOT of walking up hills, that way they can’t use momentum to get up. Once he was marching up in walk i started to add transitions (yes i’m mean 😄) this really asks them to engage bum muscles.

Remember, true muscle takes a long time to develop. My physio was really impressed with his topline last time, she said he’s nice a lean and his topline is pure muscle 😊😊😊

You can also do slightly raised poles. Backing up a couple of strides, once that is comfortably established, ask for trot out of back up

Annoying it is a tad flat but there are some bits that are slightly better. I will include transitions...

I’m very lucky and have lots of hills.

The backing up is also a good one but correct posture is important, but will improve with time, too

Was told years ago that walking up hills better work out but can’t remember why. Last yard had no hills so know what that is like.

raised poles are good and my physio highly recommended the equi balance belly band kit to help engagement and lift during strengthening work after surgery.

I would want to assess posture. It's very well using strengthening exercises but if he's not able to use himself correctly then you're just loading the dysfunction and making them strengthen the poor movement patterns. Have a look over at the resources on equitopiacenter.com, assessing topline, groundwork etc before adding more difficulty (polework, lateral work, even hills to an extent) to his regime.
