My horse has lost weight slightly on his topline, was thinking of slowly introducing a 'build up' feed. He is on Staypower cubes which are slow releasing and chaff. Want to begin also with sugarbeet.Spoke to a few nutrition lines but obviously just want to push their own.
Was hoping you readers maybe able to recommend a product. He has no health issues
Thanks.

To increase weight you need to increase the energy level of the diet. Slow release energy forms are fibre and oil, which are safer than starch. You could always just increase the quantities of the current diet rather than adding something else. Unmollassed sugar beet would be a good addition though

Just run Rowen and Barbary through google and the website will come up - there are a few Readymash products, but it's the Readymash Extra that you need. It was about £13 a bag when I was using it (had to stop as mare got so much topline she started to look like a little stallion!) and a bag lasts for ages because you soak it for 5 mins with the same volume of water as feed.
Your feed merchant should be able to get it in for you, but you could e-mail Rowen and Barbary and ask for a sample - that way you could check first whether your horse will eat it or not. I have to get samples for lots of feeds as my mare is incredibly fussy.

Thanks Holly Hock - really useful info. Gonna go with teddyt & do the sugarbeet thing.
Hang in their with your fussy mare - horses are sooo rewarding!
