Bought a sack of D&H build up mix, when i bought her she was being fed barley (apparently she dosent get heated) done a bit of research and some horses get heated off the mix so will see how she goes.
Also bought a sack of sugar beet flakes.
Soaking the sugar beet so should be ready for tomorrows breakfast, introduced a handful of the build up mix to her dinner today so will see how we get on and see how her weight goes.
The farrier came out today to shoe her, he said her feet are looking really good, there growing very healthy so i must be doing something right

he reckons after a while she will have very good feet

Quick question - planning to feed (when shes properly introduced gradually) 5 handfuls of alfa a, 1.5 large round scoops of build up and 1 large scoop of sugar beet. Have kept the alfa a the same as shes been on it a while and today added 1 handful of the mix and tomorrow the same but with a bit of sugar beet - over how long a period should it take so she gets introduced to her new feed gradually?

She should be fed 2.5% of her bodyweight in feed daily, so make sure you measure it carefully. Introduce anything like build up very carefully as it will upset tummy if she's lean. Watch sugar beet too as this can make them 'loose' aswell. Make sure she has access to plenty of good quality hay/haylage and is kept warm, and the weight will go on. Milk pellets are great for adding weight.
With a tb please be careful that you don't overdo the high protein feed as it WILL go to her head!!
Any new feed, introduce gradually over 7 days.
Hope this helps!!
