chew strip
rubber matting
metal partitions
ring ties

and wondering if thre is anything in your stable that ud never put in but couldnt do without, or anything that people would suggest to get put in?

thanks

i don't like automatic drinkers- you can't tell how much or little is being drunk, id rather take time out to use the bucket in the traditional way! all a matter of choice-

Drinkers are good - get the ones that they nudge with their noses to get the water rather than the ones with a float (like a loo cistern). I would kill to get drinkers in my barn and tbh it's only a question of buying another one and putting the pipes in - just lazy.

With the nudge ones you can hear them when they drink! I use buckets but I know the mare drinks a whole bucket in the night and FB drinks very little.

at my yard we have drinkers, mangers , haybars and a couple of stables have mirrors in for stable vices. oh and some lights might be a good idea for the winter

The Paxton A45 water drinker is a nice water drinker as it is made of plastic and is larger than the others. It has adrain plug. Fit each one with a plastic stopcock so that you can turn the water supply off to it when draining it out aned cleaning it. Have had them for 15 years and they are excellent.

Oh yes good lighting is a must. The YO has put in taps in each box so we can have buckets in each box. Works ok till you get a young horse like mine who would play with the tap and one time turned it on great came down to a paddling pool!

Having worked on a yard with 11 boxes with water drinkers, 6 of which leaked and flooded the whole yard, not a huge fan, or a yard with 16 boxes with water drinkers, all of which froze solid for 4 days!! Have to say although they make life much easier when they work, I preferred the boxes that had individual taps in each box.

Good lighting is a must, mucking out in a box without lighting is not much fun!!

Hay net tie rings if you use them. Or even if you dont somewhere to tie up in the stable is useful.

I always liked the look of the swing round feed bowl thingys, im sure there is a proper descriptive name for them! Ive never used them but thought they would be useful.
I am another that would put in haybars/racks of some sort.
And good lighting.
Possibly the option to put up weve grills/full grills should the need ever occur. (not sure when but you never know!)
I would possibly also try and in build some sort of door guard for the occasions where its handy to either have something there incase horse barges or for the more polite ones just to have the doors open.

some of mine have huge noses and are dopey so i think buckets may be the answer, but we have a supply from a spring and will be putting a water butt, if that fails, hosepipe from the house lol

sounds like have got most things in mind then, next question

do people ever shut the top doors at nite

I think i have shut them about twice ever, when snowing straight into stable, last year my horse decided it was a really clever trick to lift it off its hinges all the time and the number of times i have hit my head on them GRR.

have only shut top doors when weaning foal from mare.

the other thing is if you want the horses to be able to see each other thru the partitions a couple of ours have grills and some dont. Depends on the horses if they like to feel they have company.

only shut doors around fireworks night,

we have a talk grill so they can still see eachother but turn lights on and close doors seems to be best way of coping.

Also if you can get enough overhang on your stables to stand a horse under it is very useful and farrier will like, our barn is longer than the 2 stables so we have one of these.

Lots of windows! mine have windows at the front and back as well as their doors.............a blessing for when it is hot and stuffy. they have the slatted ones that close when its cold but open almost fully when needed
