they all cost the earth we sub contracted and did each level ourself but it still came out at about 12 grand but that was with the flood lites and fence aswell , they all cost so much as the surfaces are so expensive and you need so much its unreal ....
mapel areans are good a friend i know used them they are still in the 15 k region heres the link link
good luck ... id never build one again total headache its great though but man was it stressfull
it really depends on your subsoil type. if you are on very well-draining land, you might be able to get away with one of the "good thick sub-membrane + surface" roll out and ride type of arena. i think Equestrian Surfaces or Equestrian Direct do it.
cushionride is very reasonable too, but a bit deep imho.
if you're on clay for instance, there's no way around the fact that you have to build up a deep drainage layer to hold/manage the water and take it away from the surface quickly.
Hi,
We have built 2 arena's ourselves now, the first cost £17k the last one (last year) cost £24k but we live in Devon will hills so we had to do a lot of digging, we also put lots of drainage in which is a big chunk of the money due to the amount of stone needed for drainage, around 220 tonnes for a 20m x 40m. My school is NEVER under water unlike the majority around us!!! nor does it ever freeze due to the fantastic surface. I used a company in Wiltshire for my latest surface which cost about £9.5k but it is superb and is a replica of one of Martin Collins' (Martin orders some parts of his own surfaces from the guy I use). My previous surface was from Equestrian Direct (Artiturf) this cost £11k 6yrs ago but my new surface is far superior. My father constructs arena's, he helped my husband with ours (he is based in Oxfordshire) a one man band and very dedicated whom doesn't rip people off!!
Hope this helps you, should you want details of the surface supplier I am happy to forward details to you.
Phone around local contractors and you might find a bargain. Just make sure they do the drainage well, to help you mine has drains dug out filled with stone, then terram laid over the entire arena, then 9 inches of stone, then terram and then 5 inches of silica sand and 3 inches of Spring Tek rubber. Total- £50,000
