Hello- planning to biuld an L-shaped block of outdoor timber stables. Have found a company that comes recommended by a few people (finer stables- we're in northants)- but I was wondering what the rough cost of the concrete base would be? They'vre recommended a local person but I'd like to get an idea of whether their quote, when I get it, is reasonable. I know the cost of concrete, like everything else, has skyrocketed!

I’ve had an L shaped built last year. 3 stables and a barn/ tack room.
The concrete was around £5k. That’s not including the hardcore base but did include the brickwork the stables sit on.

Thanks! That’s very helpful. I’m estimating about 10-12k with the hardcore base so it’s very useful to have some idea of price point.
Your setup is basically what I’m hoping to build- did you put the tack room within your hay barn? Or separate?

It’s within the barn. I had 3 stables then the L bit was 20x12 (I think). The 20ft was then partitioned off so the tack room was 4ft wide ( which is plenty) and the barn 16ft wide.
I’ll find some photos.
I’m very pleased with the layout.
If I could change anything, maybe have a larger overhang.
The last photo shows the door into the tackroom.

that is a great layout- may have to steal it! I was thinking of a slightly bigger overhang but my issue was ending up with a corner box which was wasted space - your design totally solves this

Its along time since my friend had theirs done , but at the time the base cost around the same as the stables that were going on it

Just before Christmas I had a concrete base put in, 13m by 6m and it was €10,000 so about £8,500. They did all of the digging, leveling, putting in hardcore, steel mesh, and muck removal.

My concrete base ( L shaped block) cost nearly 20k ( more than the stable block!) as they had to do a complicated reduced dig thing to level the site then the concrete had to be pumped in by a huge overhead pipe as access was too narrow for the cement mixer truck to get in. It turned out to be hugely more complex than we thought when measuring up and assuming we had loads of room, because that's what the measurements said. This was 10 ish years ago

Recently quoted £30k for base to replace stables and ancillary storage about 50 x 15ft. That did include breaking up current base which is only 25ft by 15ft. Haven't done it!

My base was £9000 total excluding the brickwork base. I also had reinforced mesh put in

Those look great : )
Did that figure include the concrete pad in front of it?
Also a stable company quoted me 25k to do just these stables (and that’s not including the large windows I’ve put in, internal grills so the horses can see each other, better quality and tiled look roofing instead of cheap odeline and an extended 1.2m overhang) but my partner built them for me and all in with materials cost about 10k. So if you know someone handy with woodwork it is worth an ask!

Ooh you’re lucky! The stables going on my pad are costing €22K (steel frame and cladding, stables are 14x14ft) the local fabricators would have done the same for me at half the cost but I would have had to put them up myself and my skills top out at Ikea billy bookcase.
