i have a welsh x TB who has had shall we say questionable past. he has serious issues with strangers, especially in his stable and working him. my friend once came to help and was lunging him which he accepted after i introduced them i went to my car to get something and he went crazy trying to get away from my friend. it is apparent that the work i have put in already has made a massive impact with him however we've reached a point where he needs to be taken forward in his training and i would like to make sure our bond is as strong as possible to make this an easier transition for him. i also want our bond to be as strong as possible so i can start addressing the issue of other people as well. just wondering if anyone has any extra techniques i haven't already tried.
things i do all the time include
  • time spent in field with him just being there
  • grooming in field
  • time sat in arena with him
  • join up
  • t-touch massage

I found that taking my boy out for in hand hacks really built our relationship. I did a lot of chatting since i was his head and i got a better idea of how he reacted to things because i could see his face :) also long reining through obstacle courses in the area

the last time we went for an 'Inhand' hack turned into me getting dragged on the road at full gallop about 500 yards so i think id rather gather his full trust a little better first in a safe environment :p not thought of the obstacles though ill try that one ! might be safer leading him out at the side of a ridden horse later on
