Hi There, we have an old house plus three outbuildings and could use some recommendations on buildings and contents insurance please. One building has 8 stables 5 of which are rented out as a small livery yard. The second is used as an indoor arena and the third is just store room. The business side is all covered under a separate liability etc policy so what I need is buildings insurance for our house and buildings and contents just for the house. Can anyone recommend a porovider who might do this please? Thanks!

this sounds like you want to insure the house for buildings twice .....so i assume you need buildings ins for the 3 outbuildings plus buildings and contents for the house

For the residential property as a separate insurance, Direct Line are very good for home and contents. I can't remember the name of my yard insurance people, when it comes back to be, I'll edit the post, as they are very good and super helpful, have my public liability insurance with them too.

NFU definitely, and you could probably get a complete policy for a good discount if you rolled all of the liabilities into one with them. They are excellent for this sort of thing.

we've just bought an oldish house. 1905. Lots of insurers wouldn't touch it inc NFU because of its age or wanted thousands of pounds

I'd separate it into business buildings and private building then try NFU for business. We eventually got Saga (don't laugh!) to cover ours at a very reasonable rate.

That's interesting.

NFU were the only ones who were sensible enough to insure mine (listed, next to a river) for not a lot of money, because their local knowledge meant they understood that if my house managed to get flooded there would have been an event of apocalyptic proportions, and we'd not be around to worry about whether we were covered or not.

NFU are also really lovely to deal with if you need to claim, and they will come out and look and tweak the cover as necessary.

I have my house and yard insurance separate. The house is new, so even with contents it's cheap. The buildings and land are under a small holder policy, with five DIY liveries, camping for ten its about £350, with fourteen acres.
