BULK BUY TREATS

I'm appalling then... mine get either: a pony nut, a piece of carrot, a sugar free polo, what ever is to hand.

Friend costed up a pack of treats against polos, not by weight but by number. Polo's came out far cheaper.

I am the same. My mare either gets a carrot, apple or polo for treats. I always buy the cheapest carrots and apples and slice them up, she loves them!

Another one that uses Baileys fibre nuggets. They keep well for ages as long as not damp and are cheap relative to “treats” . I prefer them to carrots as they don’t go slimy like carrots do especially in the summer. Even dogs like them and I have had a few random dogs come up to me as they think I have a treat in my pocket but it’s usually just where I’ve had nuggets in them.

Bo gets a sugar free polo for standing quietly at the mounting block and one when I get off again. He adores his polos but knows he doesn't get a treat at any other time.

I think if I issued them randomly I'd end up getting mugged all the time.

We have 3 horses, and a sack of Baileys Fibre nuggets lasts months as treats - just as a occaisonal reards/thank you's .
The down side is that they crumble to dust in your pockets within a few days if not fed.

I don't feed treats at all as we've had large Irish draughts for years and they're very good at forgetting about the size of my personal space without me encouraging them 🤣🤣
And my new TB doesn't eat anything that isn't horse food in a bucket ! He backs away from apples and carrots 🥕😁

I have a bag of the minty treats - last ages because they are just a reward for doing leg stretches etc and I'm mean with them and break them in half. Cheap pony nuts if the treatballs are filled.

I did get a small bag of NAF ones for the lorry and the price was eye watering. Hadn't checked until they went through the till so that's the last they'll have of those.

Baileys fibre nuggets again here. My horse loves them. A bag lasts me a good while, but I use them for daily carrot stretches etc so I use a fair few.

They also break down into a useful mash for meds/wormer, which has been very useful!
