Bull Fighting Banned

It's great news for bulls and horses!! I hate the way they cut the poor horses vocal chords so they can't scream when they get gored!!!!:(

I for one am glad it's been banned in Catalonia, it isn't only the bulls that suffer, some of those beautiful horses have horrific endings too, link here:- http://www.horsetalk.co.nz/features/bullfighting.shtml

Just saw the article - horrific - absolutely sickening, and something that I'm sure many people didn't know about. It never ceases to shock me that in this day and age, animal cruelty in whatever shape or form is so widespread, and in cases labelled as 'tradition' seen as so acceptable by some...

Great news at last this barbaric spectacle has been banned. I always used to be glad when the stupid bull fighters got caught serves them right!!!

That's a step in the right direction...

Got me thinking, would it make a difference to the world we live in if we were mostly vegetarians?

Yes of course it would.. One day it'll happen!

And great news about the bullfighting... So chuffed, hopefully this is a bit of start!

Have never seen a bullfight so don't feel i can comment - but the link to that article is completely contradicted by the video of a Picador which is in the video vault atm......

As with foxhunting, surely there are always two sides to any story? And without witnessing it, I am not going to take a side.

Just heard this, it's great news although I am amazed it has actually happened. there is no need for this barbaric 'tradition' on the 21st Century. I have seen enough footage of various bullfights and it is not pleasant viewing.

Foxhunting (although i do not agree with it) is rather different as the fox is not 'trapped' in an enclosed space in front of jeering people throwing darts into its body whilst it has to go through several stages of torture before ultimately being killed. No animal should have to suffer and panic in desperation to try and live when in reality there is no chance of this. The ending is always the same whereas with fox hunting the fox at least has some chance.

Yay! So pleased to hear this!

I once took part in a naked protest against bullfighting, and I'm so happy that things are finally beginning to move in the right direction.

They'll just go straight for meat, rather than via the bull ring first.

Different breed - they won't be bred at all. Everything in their breeding, temperament, and keep is all aimed at that time in the bullring.

Beautiful animals and nothing like the cows we use for meat and milk but don't like what happens to them.

I agree.

Not that I am a fan of fox hunting, but the fox does actually have a "sporting" chance, whereas the bull has no chance whatsoever,if it gets the upper hand another guy steps in and bails out the first guy, the bull never has a chance.

Can't say I'm upset for the bulls, they'll be a lot better off, but you did get some lovely looking horses in the ring! :)

(if indeed this includes the horseback element, or am I missing the point?)

The breed used for bullfighting is not great for meat or leather.

I have never watched a bullfight but I will not make up my mind until I have. As far as I know Catalonia doesn't see itself as part of Spain, ETA etc.

It is a complex issue.

Well I have not watched a bullfight either, nor have I watched dog fighting or horse fighting in Korea to know that I DO NOT agree with it!! Very odd you feel the need to witness a pointless barbaric act to understand it's quite wrong!
