Bull Jumps out of the Arena

Poor boy :( i hate bull fighting think its totally disgusting personally.
Poor chap must have been petrified, that must have been a fair height for him to jump..

Shame it wasn't Billy, our bull....tell him "kennel" and he goes back to bed. :p

I absolutely detest bull fighting in any form. They're not solitary animals, they already have a natural fear of humans and to antagonise, torture, tease and frighten them is just beyond my grasp for the concept of "entertainment".

I am sure the bull mate a grisly end after this video was taken too.

Its sickening and anyone who attends one of these fights is condoning it.

Barbaric stuff like this should be confined to Roman times not modern europe

In the interest of fairness, it needs to be pointed out that this was not actually a bullfight: (Telegraph Online)

"The incident did not take place during a traditional bullfight but during a contest of “recortadores”, in which participants try to avoid the bull while staying as close to it as possible."

The bull was shot in the stands and then craned out.

I do not condone the 'sport' it was being made to take part in, but at least it wasn't as inhumane as a bullfight to the death, which I detest.

The crowd didn't seem too keen on proceedings then, did they? At least the bull managed to turn the table a little bit before being slaughtered.

Again, the wonderful excuse of culture and tradition comes into play. This will never stop until people start putting animal welfare first.

Poor bull!!!!

These stories always please me. Fingers crossed one day something worse may happen and bull fighting may become a victim of health and safety culture.

Poor bulls :(

Perfect example of why I don't agree with it, yes it' cruel but it's dangerous, spectators are getting injured..even young children.

Stupidity, teasing a large animal like that.

They wanted a show, I guess they got one.

I really dont understnd how people like watching bull fighting, its so cruel and how thick are the people to do it and when questioned.. well 'its tradition'... no actually its disgusting and i think its very backwards. Poor bull was killed after... so sad :(

I've just seen the footage of this on the news. Poor, poor bull he must have been terrified and not least hurt himself trying to scramble over that fencing.

I know it wasn't bullfighting per se but it still disgusts me. Just watching that 30 second clip of him scrambling into the crowd has really upset me.

How anyone can watch that and then say such stories 'please them' is beyond me, what must he have gone through in his last minutes?

I know stencilface probably meant that s/he is pleased by things going wrong in the hope that bullfighting will be stopped but I wouldn't wish what happened to him on any animal - pleasing to watch it certainly wasn't.

Great pity that a brave bull like that was`nt kept for breeding.Stories like that please me too..but only because the animal is hitting back, for all the good it did him.Vile vile "sport"

1. I can't believe that some posters are pleased by this - a 10yr old child is seriously injured!
2. The video of the bull's jump reminded me of various recent photographs (in H & H perhaps) where firstly an event horse jumped over the ropes into the crowd, and secondly the same thing happened at a race. Perhaps there are closer parallels than we care to think.
I'm not a big fan of anything involving animal cruelty, obviously, but there's a fine line between respecting another country's culture, and campaigning for welfare.

I totally agree with your 1st point, not only because of a child being injured but also because of what the bull went through - how that can please anyone is outside of my mind set.

How it can be put down to the bull 'fighting back' is incredulous - the poor bl**dy thing was terrified and panicking, how on earth can it be put down to fighting back and people be pleased by such things ???

This!

I'm not sure being dragged along by Mum and Dad is an excuse to wish ill on a child!

I agree totally with the thought for the bull..sadly there are people on here who seem to think that seeing as the Italian palio is 'tradition' its okay. It is just as cruel as the bull fights but is prettied up more and seeing as there are many participants, isnt as bloody and personal for the individual. Poor bugger, he only wanted to go home!

Think the people saying they are "pleased" that this happened mean they are pleased something has happened to highlight the cruelty of bull fighting (although this wasn't an actual fight); the bull was clearly distressed and wanted out; they are not pleased that a child has been injured.

As regards it being a tradition, well not all traditions are good and want perpetuating. After all we outlawed burning at the stake, etc

Unfortunately much cruelty is effected under the guise of religion, culture and sport!

the reason that the bulls are now capable of 'jumping' is due to the todays selected breeding. The modern bull has been bred to resist longer in the ring and give more 'show'. This has produced a bull with longer and more 'elastic' muscle in his hind quarters= the ability to jump. This isn't the first bull to jump and wont be the last. God bless them.

The organisers of this bull fight (or shall we be polite and call it bull tease) obviously went to the same intelligence school as the idiots who thought it would be funny to send a donkey abseiling. You just can't abuse the welfare of animals for human entertainment. Anyone sitting in that crowd deserved any pain or distress they received.Just wish old bully had done some more damage to highlight why this sort of thing should not be happening. And why crane him out then shoot? Why not shoot first, was it not obvious how distressed he was by the noise he was making. Total idiots.

I never wished ill on any child, I am a mother. However I would not take my 7 year old son to an Arena to torment an animal capable of causing injury. I don't care what it was but it is still tormenting a sentient being who has no comprehension of what is happening. I take care of my children around my own horses even though I know and trust them, they are still animals and can be unpredictable by nature.

FGS what is wrong in this world? Who gave us the brains and the hierarchy just to make a hash and abuse of it?

I saw the clip on TV last night and I was so angry. The poor bull is clearly terrified. Shooting it was seen as deserved as it attacked people. Er I think it was attacked forst by stupid people in the name of entertainment.

It amazes me how people can still justify cruelty to animals as part of tradition or sport but if we are talking about things that affect people everyone is outraged. Can you imagine them still allowing Gladiators to enter a ring with lions and see who wins out? Its traditional though!!!

if the spectators of this sort of entertainment wish to really experience the thrill of agitated cattle they are welcome to come and do my wednesday job at a local auction mart even trying to keep the animals calm and quiet they are difficult enough to work with in any kind of new (to them) situation and they do get somewhat distressed so to really upset them on purpose is just asking for trouble!

I quite like the idea of reviving the Christians/lions thing.
