I really dislike bullfighting and cant think of any logical reason why someone would want to hurt nother being so badly. So after seeing in the news the other day about the matador who was caught by the bull he was fighting and the bulls horn went right through his face and ripped his eyeball out (did anyone else see this news story), do you think that the people who compete in this kind of sport wether it involves cows, horses or other animals etc deserve the injuries they get. Even though i wouldn't wish any such injuries on anyone, I just can't help thinking that it's their own fault.

I think only banned in Catalina (sp?) i.e. one area of Spain where there wasn't that much anyway. Kind of like if they'd only banned fox hunting in London.

All I can say abt any human injuries is be careful how you phrase it. I got in terrible trouble the other day for seeing the 'poetic justice' in a fisherman drowning :-S

(Although obviously again not something I'd wish on anyone.)

Yes they know the risks , hey makes a great picture a spaniard with a bulls horn up some where the sun dosen't shine with a look of pain and fear on his face in the paper, something to make your eyes water and gives you something to smile about at the same time!!!!:D horrid bussiness, mind they would say fox hunting is cruel ...hey ho!!

In the incident mentioned the bull collapsed and died!

I'm glad the bull had the last say to be honest. Bullfighting is the most dreadful sport, the bulls dont even get a fair chance with their horns paired down etc etc!

My parents live in Spain and my mother confessed to me that she'd watched a couple of bullfights on TV and found them exciting. I wouldnt speak to her for ages I was horrified.

Definately their own fault. They know the risks involved in the sport, and can't expect to participate in the sport without being injured.

You expect to fall off, at least once in your lifetime, when riding a horse, don't you? It's exactly the same thing :)

I cry for these poor animals... don't care about the human - we were born with brains and can CHOOSE not to do something.

Well.. of course its their own fault.
No one forces them into that ring with the bull, they walk in their themselves and are well aware of the potential danger... so how can in NOT be their fault...? or am I missing the point?
But then although its cruel to the bull at the end, and I don't agree with how they're killed, its still cow to be eaten!

I don't gloat over injuries like this, but I am also not sympathetic either, the Bull never has a chance from the start, it gets tortured to death and never has a chance of survival no matter what, the Twatador knows the risks when he goes in the ring......

I have no strong feelings on bullfighting but taking some sort of ethical viewpoint then laughing at a picture of a guy's eyeball hanging out of his head as I have seen some people do, isn't very ethical either.

And wow, the fisherman thing Tickles? I'd dare you to share that opinion in our local village, or say it to my friend who's husband works on the seas so he can keep a roof over their heads, doesn't see him for weeks on end and wonders every night if he will come home to her.

I think bull fighting is barbaric so yes, serves them bloody right!

I am not an animal rights fanatic, I eat meat and have no problem with animals being consumed providing they are farmed and slaughtered humanely, but torturing an animal in the name of sport is completely different and is just sick.

Fishing cannot be compared, I've yet to see a fisherman taunt and torture his fish, nor have I seen a salmon rip an eye out ;)
