Eahotson's post just got me thinking.

(she feels there is alot of bullying in the horse world in general).

Now I know that there is bullying in all walks of life, but I agree with Shelley that it is particulary predominant in equestrian circles.

It is just my opinion, but I feel 99% of bullying is down to insecurity in the bully.

The dogmatic horsey types who I consider bullies, have always seemed to me to be clinging on to their knowledge/experience for dear life and their way of doing that is to scare others into not daring to question/go against them.

Any credible horseman/woman would to me need to be open minded and willing to admit that we all learn something with horses everyday, and that THE best teachers are in fact our horses.

I think if you keep that in mind, the next time someone makes you feel stupid or clueless about your experience with horses, you'll see them for what they are. Basically just terrified people hanging on for grim death to their own imagined credibility!

Sorry bit of a pointless rant but I felt the need!!

do you think it has something to do with the large number of women in our sport....(I'm going to hide under my desk now!)

I don't know??? I suppose we women are generally more insecure about day to day stuff than men are (looks etc) so maybe it does follow that there would be more horsey insecurities passed about?? *ponders*

I was at ponies uk summer champs and was at fairground and noticed a group of girls beating up the boys...Knee him in the b?lls was the request of the crowd of girls???? some boy was going to find riding an issue for a few weeks...it didnt help that his hands were being held hehind his back ..by yet another girl...this is bullying..perhaps this is why so few boys take up riding???

I personally dont think bullying is always down to insecurities in the bully. often it is the best looking most popular people doing the bullying, who probably are pretty much chuffed to bits with thier little lives! its a bizarre thing lol. Id say bullying and bitching in the horse world is indeed rife, as in most things i guess, sadly x

Lucky old me then I've never experienced any form of bullying infact totally the opposite really helpful kind lovely women. sure there's a bit of bitching here and there but since I'm a bloke I don't rally to it. I have to say I've never noticed it. If it does occur then it is a very sad reflection on the individual and the sport as a whole....now if you were on about snobbery then that would be a different matter....

I didn't see the original post but have to say I have never personally encountered bullying that is specific to the horse world..I have met bullies who also have horses, but they behaved that way all the time and it was not just restricted to the yard.

A person being dogmatic is easily ignored and I wouldn't consider them to be a bully unless they were trying to make me do something their way by putting me in fear of physical harm, or isolation from my peers or possibly verbally very abusive.

I think the expression 'bullying' is much overused these days
