You know how they say you should try not to look at your young horses too much between three months and three years? Well now I understand why! Some of the ways they grow are nothing short of shocking, as demonstrated by a certain incredibly hairy and amazingly bum-high baby horse.

I have to say, I'm not holding out too much hope of this having improved by her third birthday in May, so I'd better hope she's just a late maturer!

Some go through a very odd looking stage but she will even out eventually bless her, how tall is she?

I haven't measured her in months, so I genuinely couldn't say! Bigger than her mum though, and Mary is just shy of 15hh.

That's quite tall for her age do you know the sire?

Yes! Her sire is Tresorya Llyw Sulien, and I know she has quite a few siblings around the 15.2hh mark, so think she'll be a decent height once she's done. I also imagine she'll be built like a tank, considering her Traditional mum and that her sire and grandma look like this.

Wow - where has 3 years gone? That was a great 'do you think my mare's pregnant thread?' End result is gorgeous even with the fluff and the mud!

My 2.5 year old is bum high. Currently 15 hands. Dad unknown. Stallion got into previous owners field. Think bit welsh?

My ex welsh d x was still growing and filling out at 7/8, so she has a fair bit to go yet. He went through some shocking wonky donkey phases, but turned out nicely in the end!

Plenty of the fully grown natives I saddle fit for (and cobs and various other breeds and crosses!) stay croup high, not too many QUITE that croup high, but many Welshies are.

My will be 3 in July mare is particularly bum high at the moment too. She is appaloosa x although you wouldn't know it. Sometimes I look at her and think she's lovely and then other times I look and think oh god what have I done  She still looks tiny (although I think she will only reach 14.2/15.00 max anyway) currently around 13.2 at the wither. I was planning on sending her to be backed in January 2021 (3 1/2 year old) but not convinced it will be an option at that time. We'll see :)

With her breeding, I do fully expect her to be slightly croup high - but hopefully not to the extent that she is now! ?
