Just wondering how you all deal with that end? My mares conformation means she gets bumcrumbs quite easily but I like her bum to be as clean as possible, thinking about spraying on olive oil or something similar after washing to prevent them sticking, does this sound ok to do? Also what do you use to wash them with?

Ta :)

I have a mare with the same especially when she is in season. I wash her bottom with warm water and her legs and tail with mild shampoo. I then put some Vaseline on her bottom and back legs.

She is very touchy with her back legs so I like to keep her clean and free from getting sore.

In the summer my boy can sometimes get a sore behind.

If it were dirty, I used to wash with warm water. Then I would vaseline it: same as most have mentioned.

To prevent crud sticking, wipe with baby oil after washing. If you can wipe her bum daily to prevent build up.

My mare is lazy with her tail and gets dung stuck in the hairs towards the top of her tail, she has a really thick tail which tends to tuck under her dock. I now pull her tail enough to reduce the amount of hair stuck around her dock. If your mare is very touchy you could trim the tail back with scissors.
