My cob hasn't been ridden for 2 weeks now due to lameness. He's just been out over night and in during the day . Today I noticed that he's got loads of bumps about the size of 20p coins under the saddle area. But he hasn't had a saddle on for 2 weeks !
Nothing has changed in his routine either. They're not sore and don't seem to be itchy.
He's usually had one or two of those whilst he's been in work which I thought could be blocked pores. But don't understand where they've come from now.
Any ideas what they could be ?
They are in the place where the saddle panels would sit on his back.

Could be collagen granulomas (raised and hard), they normally sit where saddle panels are. They can be sensitive to pressure though which doesn't sound like what you're saying.

Pressure bumps are also a thing and it's pressure and friction damaging tissue. In my experience it normally means a saddle that's too long but that might not be the case here.

I'm not entirely sure and I'd say get saddler out and then vet if needed.

Saddler sees him every 6 months and just saw him not long ago. The saddle fits him well so I'd be shocked if it was anything to do with the saddle. Especially as he hasn't had one on for 2 weeks .
Vet is coming tomorrow for lameness so will ask her but just wondered if others had seen this

Forgot to say that he's recently had cleavers and marigold added to his feed and I wonder therefore if this could be an allergic reaction ?

I had a horse come out in lumps, quite a few of which were in the saddle area. It was something he was eating in the field hedge. He had a course of tablets from the vet and changed fields and was fine, so could be an allergic reaction.

Thanks. He does have a hedge in the back of his field and has been seen to eat from it.
