Does anyone ride there horse in this aid? I've only lunged my boy in it a few times and he's gone really well in it. Just wondering what people think to riding in them? and what do people prefer side reins or the bungee for lunging?

I personally use a Pessoa for lunging.

I have a bungee but mainly use it if my horse is fresh especially out hacking - it just gives me a little bit more control so she doesn't throw her head in the air and run off with me! She's never worn a martingale as she doesn't need it, so the bungee is handy for those odd days where I just need a bit more control.

Personally don't use them for schooling as I'd prefer to push her into the contact from behind - she has a tendency to dip behind the vertical when she's ridden in it.

I bought one for my sister to be able to ride my horse with some control and I have lunged in it and really liked it, didn't like the action of the pessoa at all but like everything personal preference x

Do you mean the "Lungee bungiee" (Sure I spelled that wrong) that goes from a coupling under the bit to the D rings or roller, fully elasticated with different clip positions? Or the Bungie thing which goes from the girth through the bit rings to the poll at bit like a 100% elasticated Chambon?

And the answer is yes to both - but they have different actions. I do lunge in the lungee bungee as needed - and a pessoa, and side reins (not all at once!! depending on which horse and what I want to achieve.) We have ridden in the bungie thingy - I know if has a proper name I just can't remember what it is. To me its an elasticated Chambon. It helps settle head carriage to allow the rider to develop a light feel and better seat aids.

As with anything the key is understanding what it is used for and how to fit it correctly. And knowing the horse you are fitting it to I suppose! If it is fitted correctly and works for your horse and what you want to get to then great!
