Just watched this on Burghley TV. Flip Me! Arrgh!

No 7, the step up from water, bounce to a brush looks impossible to me.

Big corners, several table fences.

Tough, tough, tough.

Since I am going, for the first time in absolutely years, I hope I am proved wrong and the horses eat it up.

It was fenced 7 that made me go ‘oooo interesting’ too. Can see issues all round that course, with perhaps a 50/60% max clear completion rate.

Just seen a video of how green the course is. While they appear to have done a great job, I can’t help but wonder about the sustainability of gallons of water being used for four days of sport (one for the xc course)… but that’s a issue for another day.

I believe it is entirely from their own water sources (lakes)...they do not use mains water.

Think they actually said own water resources sometime ago…on their frequent updates….
The only recent post I’d seen mentions their irrigation system, not what/where the water source is. Event sustainability is arguably as important as social licence now.

Has there been any update about the Irish team @Gamebird and whether Colorado Blue gets a stab at winning a 5*?

They've had a similar fence with a step and bounce out of water before.
It appears in 2008, maybe in others too but that's the oldest year of highlights on Burghley tv so I've started with that one. Leaf pit was much easier in those days. Just one fence at the bottom

Gosh I’ve just watched the preview and fence seven was the eek fence for me too. At least they’ll be fresh at that point. I have to be honest, it made me think “god we push these horses so far”.
As for the rest, lots of big table type things and accuracy fences. Lots of corners. It will be interesting.
And I’m still 😢 that I’m not going this year! But I’ll save a few hundred on tickets and fuel, let alone shopping.

They pump out the water that’s under the lion bridge for a few weeks to fence build, presume they chuck it all on the course.

I did slightly lol at the person on Facebook who having seen pics thought it was so dry from the weather there would be no water. Hopefully I put their mind at rest

It was interesting listening to the eventing podcast. Tim and Piggy were on as Burghley ambassadors. Tim was saying he had watched the course preview and was planning his run but Piggy says she never watches it as it’s too scary.
