Got to feel sorry for the people at Burghley this year, dressage today in 28 degree heat, or dressage tomorrow in torrential rain! Which would you prefer and why?
That is a difficult one I think you have to say the heat as the rain can unsettle the horses more and want them to turn backs into it. For some people an over fresh eventer may be helped by a hot day for the dressage!
I haven't seen anyone predicting torrential rain for tomorrow - the BBC said rain, but patchy this morning. I hope they're right as I'm there tomorrow.
I won't feel too sorry for the 4* horses if there is torrential rain tomorrow, but I think some of the 4yos in the BYEH will struggle to show themselves to their best advantage.
Hopefully the forecast is wrong bit Metcheck had 10 mm in 4 hours, but I'm sure they over estimate. Good points re heat helping chill out the highly strung - I'm used to heat sapping energy but hadn't considered that would be a good thing.
The worst part for me would be the fluffy microphone being thrust under my nose as soon as I had exited the arena so perhaps heavy rainn so they couldn't hear what I was saying.
I guess heat for the same reasons as Gamebird, pictures!
But Mals has some brill tests in sleet, hail, rain and sun, also some of her worst, the weather seems to make little difference to her!!
Still praying that the forecasts are wrong for tomorrow am there spectating, day booked off work, burghley tickets paid for etc really want to be in the weather I could see from the office window today! Answer to question though is I prefer to compete in the heat as both me and my horse prefer it.
Give me Heat any day! I don't think 28 is that bad tbh I jumped today and he barely only just sweated up! but i think me and pony are fans or the heat and sun. As he turns into a ****** in the winter and I don't like it either! I hope the weather stays away for you all today if your going!!! Xx
