Burghley Stallion parade?

I strongly suspect the poster sniping is another stallion owner seeing green...
I think it's up to individuals to assess a stallion and decide whether it will suit their mare and produce something fit for the purpose they are breeding.
I watched the vids of FI and decided he had a lovely trainable attitude, looked bold and had I a mare suitable, would have used him.
I can't be alone in that I choose my stallions by my own preferences not what anyone else recommends I use. Over the years I made some bad choices (one well know ID stallion produced very plain run of the mill horses but all ended up in happy hacking homes to this day), I used a world class stallion and produced a really difficult temperamented gelding when the same mare to others produced good competition horses.
Regardless of any marketing skills any stud owner uses I'm afraid when choosing a stallion I use my own gut instinct and knowledge of how certain bloodlines pass things on such as trainability and soundness. As I described above, I don't always get it right!
It's insulting to breeders to suggest all of us don't do the same.
The record of FI foals up to now is excellent, I for one hope they go on to do very well in comps fulfilling their owners' expectations.
And I hope to see less "sniping" going on, many of us as another poster has said, are well aware that on here there are stud owners who talk to themselves, pretend to be others etc, there are several male and female breeders who must think the rest of us are incredibly stupid not to see through their games.....

Going back to the thread title, I am sad to say we wont now be bringing JP (Weston Justice) to the parade, he has had the vet today and bloods run as he is not himself and had a high white cell count so will be house bound until better. Such a shame as he loves a party, but obviously its a no goer. I will be there so happy to say hi to anyone.

Oh that's a shame, there seems to be a good line up, some lovely stallions there.

I saw a Wish Upon A Star colt foal in the flesh a few weeks ago, very, very nice and a Brief Encounter filly who was just beautiful.

Sorry to hear he won't be going, there seem to be lots of bugs around at the moment, several friends' have horses with similar symptoms.
I haven't been to Burghley it's just so far away from here, but would have enjoyed the stallion parade..
Shame there isn't a facility where you could show videos of your boy instead, but his record speaks for itself anyway!

We have a cracking 4 year old that I wish we could bring as they allow progeny shown but alas she is a mare and so could not be allowed as that would be too much for the boys to put up with.

Now that would put the cat among the pigeons!
I attended our local ag show the other day and thought how good it would be if they had a progeny class of say three by any stallion, I know we'd love to enter something along those lines. I think in many ways it helps people decide much better than seeing the stallion himself.
We tend to breed just to sell the youngsters, and I even wondered about hiring a trade space next year and having vids running of the stallion competing plus lots of pics of the youngstock and competing horses, it may end up a good way to attract customers for the foals etc. Whether I dare make a pen to keep a couple in as well I don't know, we have sky divers and a ferris wheel in the same field!

To me there are three ways you can find out this information - direct from the owner of the stallion, from the people who gave you the above information (as they were obviously there on the day) or direct from the ZfDp.

I am not up on all the event breeding, but I very much like the look of Future Illusion, and his stock are doing well for themselves. Like ANY young stallion breeders have to wait until the stock are under saddle. However, this did not stop the several hundred mare owners using the likes of Hotline or Diarado without even knowing what they would produce as foals.......never mind having to wait until the youngstock are under saddle.

People may knock the ZfDp, but they are WBFSH Full Members, and I have seen stallions graded through this society then go on to become Approved stallions with other German breed associations.

I congratulate Julia because she has given her stallion the best chance with using some of the best eventing mares (says a lot) and also the fact of getting a good rider for him. Not to mention the money she has spent getting his youngstock evaluated. From what I can see she is doing her best for the promotion of her stallion.

Having read through all these posts - firstly congratualations to Julia having FI heading the stalliion rankings.

Secondly can stallion owners actually do anything right. Having been through it all with Kings Composer (his critics - some on here who have never acually seen him - and those that love hime) it all gets very wearing. With two young colts on the yard, one does think "do I really want to go down this road again"

You are damned if you do and damned if you dont.

considering this post was about the parade it got very personal, seems ken is not here to have a pop at, lets have a pop at fi, people need to grow up im afraid.

Couldn't agree more, and as for the revelation that stallion owners have conversations 'with themselves', that leaves me speechless, and that is a first.

Believe me Maggie2 there have been several instances of stallion owners and also agents having multiple user names in the past and then talking to themselves about their stallions and progeny.

Well there was one high profile one that even I had sussed out! I am sure you know who I mean.

But I have seen instances of new people who seem to have a big opinion on a certain horse, then disapear, but didn't know what they were up to. I shall pay attention in future though, thanks.

I did once have what I was sure was the stallion owner incognito taking me to task on another site when I quoted something that was a fact beyond dispute!
