A few weeks away still I know, but I am going this year for the first time in years and years. It will take about 2 1/2 hours to get there, soooooo....

Is the traffic as bad as Badminton? Do I need to get there when the gates open at 7.30am? Will I be sitting in traffic for hours if I arrive later?

This is on XC day by the way

I've never had an issue getting there for about 8.30am......but have heard if you leave it later it can be a problem!

Yes, Yes & Yes!!

XC day is the busiest day. We went last year for 3 days and it was fab. We got there at 7.30 each morning and went and had breakfast and missed all of the traffic jams. My car is in the official DVD!!! Its right by the finish post LOL

Getting out is another story...took us an hour just to get out....its worth it though, you'll have a great time.

Sadly we can't go this year, our non horsey friend decided to get married that weekend

I shall be leaving home at 5am then....

Thats what I always do with Badminton Tricksy, you get in the front row of the Lake car park, so I go off and walk the course while it is lovely and quiet then have some breakfast and wait for the fun to start

I queued for what seemed like an hour to get out of Gatcombe this time, I am sure it has never been as bad before for traffic, but never mind

Thanks both for your replies

I go every year (love it)! Usually go early ish, get there for around 9 but last year we left later. It took us about an hour & a half just to get through the last 3-4 miles - so get there before 9.

I've been to Burghley several times, though not in the last couple of years. It is a nightmare to get out at the end of the day every time but it is worth it

My horsey friend got married that weekend a couple of years ago. We used to go and camp at Burghley for 3 days, her now husband proposed to her at the BBQ we had after XC!

So we let her off getting married that day!

Personally would advise driving to a close station (like Peterborough) and then getting the train

(we tend to go from Camb station

I used to live less than 10 miles from Burghley and made the mistake of thinking I could get there early ish but not that early.... 3 hours to do 10 miles on the A1!!!! Best go very early! Even using all the back roads it was still slow!

Yep, it is an easy walk from the train station (and if we can do it with our sense of direction anyone can

The town (Stamford) you have to get through to get in is pretty small with small streets and so def. best to go as early as possible and get a good car parking space and avoid all traffic if you can!!!
