Burgie BE80(T) and question about showing

Hi,

My OH has offered to take me with him to watch Burgie this year if he's working at it and my inner fantasist is imagining taking my horse to compete - now I doubt very much if I would compete as we are not up to standard anyway and I'm ridiculously nervous when it comes to this sort of thing but....

They do BE80(T), Novice and Open Intermediate and I was wondering:

What exactly is BE80(T)? What if I ever got my brave pants glued on would we be expected to do?

What does Novice and Open Intermediate entail?

As you can probably tell the closest I've been to a show ring was local gymkhanas as a child :o

Also I suppose I'd better ask wheather and what classes my lad would be allowed to do

He's 15hh lightweight cob

Also he now has a saddle that fits properly, that was a lend from my mum in this pic and please forgive the bits of leather not in their keepers, only realised after I'd taken the photo... duh!
 
Try and find a local show to go to with him, Burgie is not the ideal place to start, at local level he could do plenty of classes, RC horse, working hunter, cob, family pony/ horse to name a few, there are not so many options for his type and age in hand but may be some options, the schedules will vary so look at them and see what suits.
He is not really hairy enough to show without taking the feathers off and as a true cob type would usually be hogged but that may be a step too far for just a few fun days out.

Sorry should have made it more clear :o I don't plan on going to Burgie anytime soon, we just plain aren't ready :o But I've never shown before so I needed advice on how to start, I had a look at burgie just out of interest because my OH said he'd take me to watch :D

:eek: oh nooo! I don't want to hog him or take his feathers off, I like him hairy! :o Would that really do us in if we went to shows after local fun day affairs? :cool:

Sorry for the ressurection but I'm still wondering about the clipping :o
I really don't want to clip his legs or hog him, would I get away with plaiting?
 
No don't plait. Its my understanding if not freeflowing mane then it should be hogged but never plaited when it's a Cob (Personally I love to see the feathers and mane but most Cobs do seem to be hogged for showing)
Are you in a local riding club? There are always a few club type shows over the summer months, informal and fun.
And that is indeed one lovely looking yard, wow.

So I can leave the hair on but just leave it unplaited? Fab! Thank you! :D I'm not a member of an RC but was looking into it last night as it would be a good intro to the showing scene without the pressure ;)
*Cries* I know it's pretty but we aren't there anymore and it's not a nice place however lovely it looks :(
Every time I post these pics people comment on how lovely the yard is... no one says anything about the horse ha ha! :rolleyes::D
 
See, for local level and with his mane, I'd plait despite it not being true to type as his mane isn't doing him many favours- you need to show his neck off. So I'd plait up both mane and tail if he's unpulled all over...

That was him last summer after a winter of a full neck rug :o

Should I still let it flow free? Bit confused now about what to do :o
 
I don't know then... I'd be inclined to pull and plait, as he's not a hairy type, just a horse who happens to be hairy. But if you want him au natural I'd leave him flowing and free, and make sure his is super shiny and as smart as possible.

Ha ha! Ok :D I don't have a problem with pulling and plaiting I just don't want to clip him out because I love him all hairy ;) And I'd have to knock him out with sedation first :rolleyes:;):D
