Did Burgie novice yesterday. My boy went really well for me - ok stressage and a clear SJ. On to the XC and we flew round with what I believed to be clear. However as I crossed the finish line they announced I had been eliminated for error of course. I queried it (several times). The fence in question was a brush corner type thing. Well it was sort of a triangle and you approach the flat side of it. There was a white flag on the left and a red flag on the right (of the point of the triangle if you know what I mean). So I figured there was a choice, either jump the left hand side OR the right. I jumped the right. However, apparently there was ANOTHER red flag on the furthest point of the triangle (in the middle at the back, if that makes sense) so I was meant to jump the left hand side, passing the 2 red flags on my right. Is this correct?! I have never known a corner to have 2 red flags. I also did not see the point, had they simply moved the usual red flag over to the left a bit then there would have been NO need for the 2nd red. As far as I was concerned, I jumped between the red and white flags as usual. They said that it was flagged correctly so Im stuck with a big fat E on my record.

Was so peed off because my horse did such a good round for the last one of the season and I was on course to get a double clear (I thought). I have however just noticed from the online results, there were 9 other eliminations in my class and I did hear the commentator say at least 2 others had been eliminated for error of course... I wonder if they did the same thing because otherwise the course was straightforward. I dont like BE right now

How annoying for you, but I suppose take away that your horse went really well.
Bit odd though, on the BE site I could only find 1 Novice section at Wee Burgie and in that section there were only a handful competitors eliminated and it says those were for R3 or R4 so not technical eliminations??? I’m probably being thick!

How annoying.... They don't write technical elimination anymore, just an E which i think is v annoying too on the results form.

I was the fence judge at that fence. Sorry cause I don't like eliminating people! Fence was clearly marked with two red flags and this is quite common at corners. 3 people in total were eliminated in the Novice class for technical reasons. The first was eliminated for jumping fence 6 before jump 5! there was you and another competitor jumped where you did at the corner but had already had two stops trying to jump the left handside. I think the reasons for the two falgs were to make the corner more demanding. If they only had one red flag (wherever it was positioned) it would have allowed people to jump a much easier corner. Just be pleased your horse went so well as course did cause a lot of bother

Ben_and_Jerrys - I was looking at the BDWP results. Had a look at the ones on the BE site and funny thing is - Im not even on there?! Im listed on the BDWP results but not on the BE ones. Oh well! You're right though, there are a lot of R3 / R4, but I definately heard the commentator say error of course. Maybe Im going insane!

Rusty - Thanks for clearing that up. What a coincidence you're on here! Id never seen 2 red flags before. And also they had that fence in for "big" Burgie earlier in the summer where I jumped the right hand side and that was fine. So I guess I assumed I could do the same again. I will definately be looking for more than 1 red flag in future

I was at Burgie yesterday, saw the other person who did the same as you, mind you she had two run outs as well. Must admit I didn't like that jump, lots of distractions, but I saw some folk ride it nicely.
But I can understand you being anoyed, its crap when these things happen. Friend was at Aswanley the other week, horse napped big style on the xc, but was no where near the jump, but the judge still whacked 60 faults on her so she went from a good placing to nowhere!
He blasted round the course yesterday, but two poles in the SJ kept him just out the prizes.
