I have recently 2-3 weeks ago moved my dog onto burns mini bites and since then he has has sore eyes, very watery and he is scratching the fur off.The vet looked at them one week in and gave me some cream but said there was nothing in them they were just irritated. He does stick his head in hay nets and things which could irritate them but could it also be the food? When i first got him he had james wellbeloved and that did a similar thing.

Also do dogs have to come off puppy food? I have tried to move him on to the symply adult food (he was fine on there puppy) but he wont eat the bigger kibble, thats why i went for the burns. He is very lean and active so not too worrieed about weight gain

Not sure about the eyes...

Burns adult food pieces are no bigger than the puppy ones. Harley wasn't on the mini bites, but on the High Energy Lamb (for large breeds). The pieces really aren't big.

I tried Burns to see if it helped my itchy JRT. It didn't but not long after giving it to her she started having seizures. Did some research on the internet in desperation and it was said that some dogs had an intolerance to grain (even rice). When I checked the amount or Rice in the various 'and Rice diets they were over 70 odd % rice!!!! Perhaps they should be renamed 'Rice and .....' The diet as it turned out was not connected to the seizures as after MRI she was found to have a lesion on her brain. I do though give her James Wellbeloved 'Lamb and Vegetable' now so to avoid the grain. You could try a grain free or BARF diet to see if that helps at all.

I will look for grainfree and see how that goes, can you reccomend any brands?

With raw do you feed inside or outside? Also one of my concerns is the bacteria risks, do you disinfect the area where the dogs eat. I know dogs are less at risk of things like samonella but I just worry aboutthe hiegyne of having raw food around.

*is sharing a sofa with a raw chicken wing*

:o

Looking at the ingredients of JWB, Symply and Burns they all have rice and/or oats in common, I bet one of those two is the culprit. If you can't get along with raw try a grain-free kibble like Fish4Dogs - they do a small bite size for smaller dogs. :)

I sometimes feed outside but usually i just throw it to them and they munch it up. I do sometimes wipe their mouths with antibacterial wipes but only if people are coming round.

I know people who have their dogs eat outside or on towels.

Thanks for the replies! I really didnt know dog food was going to be so complicated! to try the raw do i just offer him a chicken wing?! Ive looked at some of the online companies but some of them have loads of vegetables in is that ok? Can i have raw for breakfast and grainfree kible for dinner? I wish i could buy raw with everything i needed except for bones in easy to serve portions! He is only a tiny terrier!
