My 4 month GSD has started burying chicken legs in the garden. In the morning she has 3 pieces of chicken (thighs or drumsticks). She buries each piece separately, then goes back to the first, digs it up and eats it, then the second then the third. I have to shut her in the garden or she would bury in a plant pot. If I give her one large piece of chicken carcass, will she cope? Or am I just going to have to give her a single thigh/drumstick and increase the evening mince?

I used to feed my young lurcher in an empty crate to avoid the burying, it was also much more convenient/cleaner in the winter. Can't advise on quantity or type of food though. Somebody more knowledgeable about 4 months old GSD will be along soon I am sure.

It's quite common...and what they would do 'in the wild' - if they don't feel like eating it, they will bury it and have it later. Plus, it's fun!!
Best thing to do, as mentioned, is to limit her to an area where she cannot dig at mealtimes.

I give my adult dog one carcass for his brekkie.
