so off i trugdged to the bursary comp this morning after getting up at 6.30 am to clean tack!! merlin was quite annoyed to be disturbed from his breakfast as i plaited!
so arrive just on time, so get out and clamber on and walk into indoor arena and was handed a dressage test to learn!!
hadnt time to look at it so it was tucked into my number cover. Dot Willis was directing what we had to do, and we started in walk, and changed directions alot. this would be good if my horse wasnt incredibly lazy and switches off in walk
and that left me sitting like a numpty trying to get him going. trot was better, but still not as much impulsion as i would have liked and transitions were better, and canter was ok but he was slow to canter off my leg and did not go forwards much. so then we had to do a simple change, which we couldnt do as again he was dead on my leg.
then we did a dressage test and i had tried to learn it briefly, but luckily one of the helpers was also calling it. it was awful
we wernt very accurate and our leg yield was abysmal - he would not do it at all as it was in walk and he switches off and his attitude comes out - he would not move off my leg at all.
jumping was good fun though, and they put up 3 jumps, a x pole, an upright and a parallel which wernt very big. apart from falling over the x pole as it was tiny
but jumped well over the others. so then asked to put away and go for an interwiew
in the interview i was asked by sonya duke (sherelles sister) what i wanted to do at uni and would i continue on eventing. also asked what i fed merlin and how often he was turned out. asked my goals for 2008 and general stuff like that. was also asked if i had seen sherelle ride and how would i describe her riding.
so that is it! i now have to wait 2 weeks to see if i have gotten the bursary. oh its called the sherelle duke bursary fund in memory of sherelle duke who died in 2006 whilst eventing. the horse fell at a table and it was a slow rotational fall.
