Is it easy to get to? My knowledge of Bath is limited - all I know is that there are lots and lots of hills! Are there any routes to get to the XC course that dont involve steep climbs? We would be travelling from the Melksham direction. Thanks in advance! :)

Also - what is the course like? They have a Clear Round session there this weekend and I'm wondering if it would be suitable for a green horse and a not-very-confident rider on a 2nd XC outing...!?

Huge hill coming from Bristol... not sure about coming from your way..

I'd say it would be excellent for a green horse, you can just take your time going round...

it's next to Bath uni site at top of Claverton Down
mmmmmmmmm.... coming from melksham i would say A4 into Bath then turn left at roundabout at bottom of Bathwick Hill and follow it all the way up to uni

I towed there last Summer following the Multimap directions from the M4. It goes right through the middle of Bath and is very hilly indeed... but we made it okay. XC course is lovely, different height options at every fence, well built, and nothing nasty. Would highly recommend it

They just got a load of new jumps from the Wills Bros.

It is fine to tow a trailer in Bath. The hill you have to go up does seem to go on forever, but the road is very wide so it isn't nasty

Not great on exact directions, mum does the driving, it is a fairly long hill, but not twisty or narrow.

Really nice little course there, and should be excellent now that the willis bros have been over there :)
Would defo recommend it for a young/green/novice horse, there's no water though. The course was never really up to height, but might be now with the new jumps. Few combinations, small coffin (which is fenced either side so less likely to run out) and a very small drop.

Thank you both!

Kick-on - the route you describe, would that mean going through Bath itself? Is it ok for towing do you think?

it's down london rd (A4), turn left at big traffic light (one after morrisons and daft bus lane) over bridge along to next lights. Turn right following road along through next lights and at roundabout turn left up Bathwick Hill you'll see sign for Uni. IThis road is steep but very wide and a bit long but not a prob at top of hill road flatten out and then turn left into Uni and then first right to Bushey Norwood, smallish lane and go pass cats and dogs home and venue should on left.

Thank you everyone for your replies! I think I'm 90% of the way to persuading Mum to take me now, LOL! :D

One more question (sorry!!) - they have Clear Round on Saturday, but I've never done Clear Round XC before. How does it tend to work? Obviously you have to go and jump it as a course...but if you have stops how many attempts do you get?

Sorry for all the questions! :p

Hello!

Went to MSN to see if you were on there but you're not so a post here will have to do!

The hill is pretty hilly but if you go up Bathwick Hill you will be fine (that's also the bendy bus route, just to prove it's an alright hill). The one you want to avoid is Widcombe Hill. That's a horrid hill. Narrow, passing for only one car in places.

I went up there last week (or week before, cannay remember) and took photos. They are mostly photos of the little ones as my friend who I was with only wants to jump the little ones but you can see the others in the background and I did take a picture of the HUGE Bath! Well, seemed huge to me...!

Hopefully, that should work as I've made that album public.

Follow signs to Bath Uni (not Bath Spa) and go up to campus. Then the BRC usually have white plastic signs. Also follow signs to American Museum, Bath Cats and Dogs Home-they're all pretty much the same place.

As for ok for a green horse and N-S-C rider, yes, for sure. This is saying something, but I would attempt a good few of the jumps, so if I would attempt them, I'm sure you can actually jump them :)

Good luck! If you're stuck for a pair of hands, I'm free on Saturday...

If you turn off the A36 at Claverton its just up the hill past the American museum. Its a good fun low key place.
Fab photos Kat-Bath I hadn't seen the new jumps they look fun.

I went there once. Its a nice easy course but you have to watch out for the big stones buried in the ground in places, they lay flat (same level as the grass). I took my lorry and it knackered my clutch big time. Reluctant to go there again because of this. Nice course though!

Kat - thank you SO much, that's given me a really good idea of what to expect! They look fab - just what Ellie and I need right now! :D All I have to do is persuade my mum that XC at Bath is a much better option than shopping in Salisbury....:o I will let you know if we decide to go!

Megabeast - thanks for that, if it is three stops then move on then we should be fine - *cross fingers* it hasnt taken more than two attempts at anything we've met yet...!

AndalusianLover - thanks for the warning!!! Will beware of big stones ;)

Frazzled - thank you! :)
