I used to have a bushmere pony called bushmere lord tetrach and just wondered if the breeder was still breeding them as can't remember her name, she was from kent area. ( quite few years ago thou)
Mrs Staples! Framfield, East Sussex. I did a bit of part time work for her years and years ago. Lovely woman and lovely ponies. I remember Tetworth Tetrach (who must be the sire of your pony). My favourite though was Bushmere Balalaika (out of Ernford Belladonna).
Hi, my family have had 5 Bushmere ponies and we still have 3 of them. Gold Dust (sec A), Solitaire, Minton, Angelique and Eclipse (sec Bs). Two are by Tetworth Tetrarch ( Minton & Angelique) and two are out of Ernford Belladonna (Angelique and Eclipse). We were interested in Belladonna although she wasn't available as a girl had her on loan/used to ride her and didn't want her to go.
I'd be interested to know if anyone knows where Golden Delicious and Tudor Rose went to as we tried them both out when we tried Solitaire. There was also a chestnut mare we looked at when we got Minton and Angelique.
Mrs Staples was good to us and we always send a Christmas card with a message and we get one back from her in her unique hand writing.
RebelRebel ,when were you working for her? Who was Balalaika by and what colour was she?
Hi. I was lucky enough to have Bushmere Pandora from a foal in 1980 right up until she passed away in 2002. I worked for Mrs Staples in 1989 and she was a wonderfully principled lady. Sadly I have recently found out that she passed away last year. Like Archangel I remember Tetworth Tetrach who wasn't the easiest stallion to manage. Her other stallions at the time were Tally (Talisman) and Blondel. Mrs Staples offered me my favourite foal Ayesha, but at the time I had nowhere to keep her. I often wonder what happened to her. My other favourites were Balalaika, Lady T and a very old lady called Ramia.
Oh thank you. I'm glad she went to a good home. She was a beautiful, gentle girl but with spirit! She jumped over a stable door and jumped into another field to get to her mum when she was weaned. I have a photo of her when she was only a few months so I'll look it out for your mums friend when I'm next in the attic.
Sad news about Mrs Staples, she was great to us. I've got a photo somewhere of me sat on Blondel bareback in his stable.
How was Ayesha bred? I think I came across a lovely girl on another forum several years ago who had her on loan I think. Was she chestnut?
I remember you couldn't stand too close to Tetrach's door! The 2 we've had by him certainly had a Tetrach streak but are great ponies.
IslandGirl - I'm sorry I didn't see your reply at the time. I was there in 1985/6 (I think as long time ago now!) - Balalaika was a bay, I am not sure who her sire was. She was the perfect pony, I backed her for Mrs Staples in that I just got on her and road her up the road. Wonderful mare. I wonder what happened to her.
I remember Solitaire, Minton and his dam China Doll (beautiful mare). Tetrach was a little monkey, you had to keep your wits about you. The other stallion I liked was Blondel, I used to ride him up the road to try the mares. He was a funny boy, when the mares were in with him he tired of them very quickly and used to stand at the gate wanting to come in. They were happy days.
I am so sorry to hear about Mrs Staples passing, I always meant to go back and see her but I moved away and one leaves these things too late :frown3: RIP Mrs Staples.
We still have Solitaire and Minton ☺ I can't remember if I saw China Doll, I think my parents may have done. I did see Oakhatch Santeena, Solitaire's dam. Mrs Staples told us (several years later I think) that Solitaire bucked off the man who broke her in! ! She certainly taught me how to sit a buck but she has been an amazing pony for me. Minton has a fantastic action and is a great pony but his brain is sometimes hindered by the 'Tetrarch' part!
