I need to get an idea of what others do in the tail department please - pull, clip, nothing (plait for occasions) or other?

We did a show yesterday and the front end looked plaited and presentable, but the back end looked somewhat pit ponyish - lovely on a pit pony but not particularly smart on my ISH.

Pull.

Or if your horse objects to it, there's a great little thing from smart tails I think that does a super job in half the time - can't remember what it's called though. It's like a comb, but with blades...........anyone know?

What do you do with him? showing? jumping? dressage?

A bit of everything. She's young and we're just starting out, but she's a potential eventer.

Are you talking about a solobomb?
I currently have 2 horses. One is a TB and her mane gets pulled and her tail gets pulled.
My other is a medium/heavuweight cob. I do nothing with his tail because if I pulled it or plaited it, it would look ridiculas because his tail is so thick. I also pull his mane so I can plait it up.

Not a solocomb - it's called a mane and tail rake and they come in many different widths and fineness of cutting. They are brilliant. I couldn't pull a tail if my life depended on it but with the tail rake you just drag it down the tail where you need to lose some volume and voila! Job done. I'd have a few practice swipes underneath where it won't show as they are so efficient you could take off more than you intended at the first swipe! My boy has the lushest tail imagineable and although it's totally gorgeous, it does have a life of it's own sometimes. Tail rake got it tamed in about 5 mins and Sunny didn't even know it was happening x
