Help wanted!
I’m wanting to set up my own equestrian clothing brand. I’m really struggling to find names. I’ve thought of regal equestrian, Eleve equestrian, Galloway equine. However think the first two may already be used as business names. I’m not sure how to check, so any advice greatly appreciated. Equally any business name ideas people may have.
Thank you 😊

Top of the hill equestrian clothing. Peak summit etc already taken. I think the words "equestrian clothing " needs to be in the title to bring you high up in a Google search. Please don't use your name in the avatar, please change it. ( bhec)?

I know AI gets a bit of a roasting here, but put a good description into ChatGPT about the brand, whether premium or value, what is the USP, target audience and so on, and they will make some suggestions which could be a starting point. If you don't use it, send me the above info and I'll have a go.

I think the name is often the last thing to come to a succesful brand. You need to think about:
- Who are your customers? what will resonate with them?
- What makes your clothing different?
- What market are you trying to break? Budget, high end etc? Name can determine this
- Style of clothing - classy, colourful, hard wearing, fashionable etc
- Will you ever want to move away from strictly equestrian clothes down the line to expand? This might mean you want to keep 'Equestrian' out the name

ChatGPT may help if you give it a good enough prompt, but rememeber, it's probably giving the same names to anyone who's asking.... so you might be better creating a name that means something personal to you. People will always buy into a story and durable, well made clothes more than a name... especially until that name is established.

Your tagline might be more important than your actual name.

I always think a couple of surnames always sounds classy and like a 'heritage' brand...

'Hill & Harrison': hard wearing country clothing for the everyday rider

Tell us more about your vision for the brand, and we will be able to help you more :)

So Bella equestrian? Need some more clues to help! It’s amazing how many names are in use. Went through this recently with a friend.
amazing thank you, my slogan is “Built for riders funding the dream “ although open to any other ideas. Hoping to focus my brand on luxury items for a cheaper price tag. Starting with rider gear such as jodphurs, base layers, hoodies and eventually going onto saddle pads for the horses etc. ideally I’d like something not involving my name. However my horses are called Guinness and clover, not sure if that helps. I really liked Eleve equestrian- but think this is already in use!

I haven’t got an account but will make one and give it a go. Equally the info is (in case you want to) it’s going to be luxury quality but not a high price tag, so probably more value. I came up with this slogan idea “Built for riders funding the dream” . I haven’t thought of a USP but will have a think. Target audience is probably amateur riders in their late teens/ early adulthood. Thank you.

Ahhh yes that makes sense. I reckon what will resonate with them is that we are trying to fund this lifestyle, as I said in a previous comment I was thinking about this as a slogan “Built for riders funding the dream”. I feel my clothing will be different as it will be designed by an equestrian for an equestrian and also luxury quality and lasting materials for not a very high price tag. My products will be versatile and for example sticky jodphurs will be sticky/ grippy without the look of being covered in silicone which seems to be a bit of a gap in the market. Will be lower end budget, while keeping quality brilliant. Clothing will ideally be classy not to colourful but instead more neutral colours and very fashionable. I’m hopeful my brand will remain as equestrian clothing as this is my interest. Thank you 😊

Sounds great... fomr reading the feedback above and comments, names I'd look into are (I haven't checked to see if these exist yet):

- GC Equestrian
- Clover Equestrian
- Riders
- Dream big equestrian
- Riding high
- Requestrian (you asked, we created)
- Next level equestrian
- CloverWear

Play on Clover being lucky:
- Four Leaf Equestrian
- Lucky Stride Equestrian

Sorry focusing more on Clover than Guiness... only as I'm not sure you'd be allowed to use Guiness!

You'd need to obviously check CH and for domain availability. And I wouldn't just buy the domain you want, but the ones close to it too, so no one else can use them!

You don't need to worry tooooo much about equestrian being in the title for SEO purposes as that lansdscape is changing dramatically with AI search. Tradition SEO is still very relevant, but the way people search is now very different. You will need to have lots and lots of content ready to put out there as you launch - blogs, FAQs, user gen, socials - multi-channel content that is conversational and consistent. That's what will bring your brand to the top of AI search.

I'd also be looking at micro-influencers who can drive inital awareness without costing you too much before looking at the more well-known influencers.

How exciting! Keep us updated won't you - I love a new brand to support :D

Ahhh amazing, I can’t thank you enough! This is all so helpful!! I will keep you posted. Might sound stupid but how do I check if these names are used or not? - thank you 😊

Start by googling them - I did the first two

GC Equestrian is used by a livery yard in Preston
Clover Equestrian - is already used by a clothing brand

Companies house search will tell you if the name is in use - if you use the availabilty checker you will be able to see if you can legally for a company - but would recommend researching wider (particularly check if former businesses may tarnish the image)

Might work for you, but when I see that kind of name and there's clearly nobody with those names involved I feel misled and think of the brand as being untrustworthy.

There's something to be said for a brand name that means nothing... If you do the marketing right it eventually becomes instantly recognisable and universally known.

Top of the hill equestrian clothing.
What about Top of the Muck? Adds a little humour, implies fancy but not snobbish.

Maybe it's a rotton idea but it made me laugh, at least.

Good thinking, neddy man.

Top of the Muck
Equestrian Clothing (in small letters)

'Equestrian Clothing' added makes it clear what the heck is being offered for sale, and adds style to an otherwise possible 'lacking in grace' name. Just a thought.

For a bit of grace and humour:
Lady Muck

We all know that where there's muck, there's brass.

If you're going to be primarily trading online, definitely consider whether anyone else is meaningfully returned for your brand name. If an established company is already using it, you'll struggle to overtake them.

What's your USP? What makes your equine clothing different to any other existing brand out there already?

Writing down yoru USP may give you good ideas for your brand name

I'm not sure about "built for riders funding the dream"
My very first thought was that it was the riders funding YOUR dream....ie the riders buy your clothing and the profits pay for your luxury yacht!
I'm sure that's not the plan (although profits are good!) but that was the first thing that popped into my head.
