Buster is off to vets tonight to see if we can finally get his skin problem sorted.
I took a horse to Newmarket the other week and the vet had a look at Buster and said he's got Atopic Dermatitis (sp) Or Atopy. Has anyone else's dog had / have this? How was it sorted? Newmarket vet said he'd need steriods.

Boss went through a phase where a lot of his hair fell out and his skin would weep... we spent months trying to find out what was causing it and finally a biopsy revelaed that it was some sort of food allergy. By elimination, we found out it was wheat, so he has a largely gluten free diet. He hasn't suffered for about 4 years so I think it's working.... I know it's something Westies suffer with too so perhaps Scotties (I presume thats your dog in your sig?) are prone.

I used to work as a vet nurse, so the first thing i would suggest would be allergy tests, if these come back negative there i a product on the market called Atopica. I have seen some great results with this, how ever it is expensive, so if not insured i would say maybe try steriods.!!!!!!

Ye steroids are generally recommended as they are (sometimes) the cheaper option, and often clear things such as alopecia up!
It could be anything from food or flea allergy to Cushing's, to someone getting him with the razer (doubt it!)
Sure your vet will do the best for him!
