Just wondering how you got on today at Hoplands?

hi!

had a good day 2 day! havent been jumping 4 a while so didnt no what 2 expect. we had 1 down (the eaisest fence on the corse!

) and a few time faults, he was quite spooky so the 'style' wasnt as good as it could have been (it was never going to be brill!

), got a 16 which i was quite pleased with as the lowest i sore was an 8 and the highest was around 30 odd i think! didnt stay for the results as there was still loads to go, i was about 8th before i left, doubt i will have stayed there but had fun all the same!

Im still confused as to how they mark people on style

Your score sounds great compared to who you said was leading - is it based on horse & rider or just one?

dont think i saw you as was early to go in the PN. Glad you had a good day - hoplands had a really nice atmosphere today

I dont understand how they mark style either - it is all personal preference and i doubt they mark to a strict criteria - the sheet we get given afterwards is pretty vague! Also doesnt help when i saw one of the judges talking to a competitor who was walking the course telling her how to ride it!!!

maybe it is marked on the syle that both horse and rider go round together...ie how well they are communicating and if it is flowing???!

I think they give a mark out of 10 for each fence in the style bit and then you get a penalty score?

Its very biased, if you train with the judge it helps. I've sat in with the judges and lots gets said!!! Not a comp i'd enter!

There are 10 sections with a mark out of 6 for each bit eg. position of rider, effectiveness of aids, position and use of hands, balance, rhythm, partnership of horse and rider, technique of horse etc etc.

then you get a really vague comment of the right hand side of the sheet!
