Ok ok, I know you should be careful what you wish for, but now the school has defrosted I am overwhelmed with what getting back to normal involves.

Bolshy Hunters
Our lot seem to have forgotten their manners, so I've spent most of the weekend reminding them of the basics: stop means stop, one kick for go, two for emergencies (OH's riding mantra
tongue.gif
), so they should be all ready for this week's hunting hopefully - or my ear will be well and truly bent by their riders.

BSJA
Full of my new-found confidence from the Equine Pathway day, I took HumungaHorse and Hector to Manor Farm. If you remember, HH was a star with his jumping at the EP so I did the 1.15m, he tapped the first fence out but then jumped really sweetly clear round the rest, trying his hardest to squeeze his huge body around a tight course with short distances. Why I then entered him for the 1.20m I'll never know, as it felt like every fence was no more than three strides after the previous one.
confused.gif
Bless him he did try, but once he'd had one down he just tightened and worried and I had no time to soften him before the next one was upon us. Lesson learnt was huge horses need huge arenas: expect to see me at Weston Lawns in the near future.

Onto Hector, who was distinctly average at the EP, worryingly so in fact but, after he and I had had a heated discussion in the warm-up, my idle yak turned into a JA pony.
shocked.gif
He went in to the 1.20m and was feeling fab, attentive, pingy, careful - up until the point where I pressed him way too agressively to the base of a big oxer and he shot off my leg like he'd been electrocuted, having it down.
blush.gif
Oh well, that's why we go out practising isn't it? I've decided he and I are alike in that we both need a socking great big boot up the backside to get the best out of us, wishy washy does not produce the goods.
mad.gif

Babies
No, I'm not pregnant, I'm talking about young(ish) horses.
laugh.gif
Remember Marty, now 6yo, bought as a hunter but not...ahem....settling to as quickly as I'd like (two falls in one day is a bit excessive, especially at my age
blush.gif
)? Well, he's going to learn his manners by way of eventing, yay
grin.gif
I think.
crazy.gif
And his partner-in-crime is going to be Tino, who belongs to the lovely GT_02. Tino is 5, was backed last year but hasn't done a lot. Baydale Bootcamp has been a bit of a shock to his system after his easy life, but he's getting the hang of it. Tomorrow both boys are going to Arena UK to go in an arena for the first time and then jump a course, all in readiness for Cranwell ODE in two weeks' time.

New Rides
Our livery owner who has two hunters with us also owns another horse, Wilbo, that Matthew Wright has evented for the last couple of seasons. He's 10yo, has 30 points, been placed at N and I, and he will be sold at some point. Apparently a lot of people are put off buying them when they know that a rider of MW or OT's calibre have been riding them, as they know they could get three-legged donkeys round Intermediates successfully. So, the logic is that if a numpty like me can get a tune out of him he'll be easier to sell. Hmmm, watch this space, and if anyone's got any spare metalwork for brakes, please let me know as I've seen MW with half the tackroom on Wilbo when he goes cross country.
shocked.gif
tongue.gif

So, Baydale is going to be busy, feel free to slap me if I ever dare whinge about that fact.
wink.gif

Ploughmans and a half of lager for anyone that's got this far.
smile.gif

Talking metal work, I have some for you... equally I went for a burn yesterday and eek! I may need them haha

Exciting season ahead for you Ms Baydale Bird
grin.gif
I am delighted to hear Monty is going to take the step up for some eventing this season.

BTW, have you given up work totally yet? as with that lot I really think you should

That made great reading and a good break form doing English coursework
smile.gif
.

I agree about the whole pro MW/OT thing. I wouldn't buy one from a pro, knowing from experience. And of course I wouldn't buy one from you either, it could be a real donkey without your magic

Yes, I think I might need the metalwork back, not sure the Happy Mouth will make an impression on him though.
crazy.gif

And unless I've got the ride on Gamebird's horse, it's Marty, not Monty! I've told you before about drinking in the mornings.
tongue.gif

Nope, still employed three days of the already not-long-enough 7 day week.

Whoops, I was hoping you might not notice the name change, along with not noticing me nabbing young Mart out of the back of your new truck!

DAMN..

Its been a long morning
frown.gif
humour me.

So, I take it a shopping trip one evening at Bic Village is out of the question now youve got all that lot to do?

I'm up for the pub lunch
grin.gif
Busy ain't the word, there are only 24 hours in a day you know. The SJ doesn't sound at all bad to me (you perfectionist, most people would be well pleased) and the babies sound fun. It might not be quite so much fun with Wilbo until you've sorted out the brakes, but I reckon you'll enjoy the challenge
smile.gif

Hope Rosie comes back from her training full of confidence and enthusiasm - she's at Quainton for a couple of days of flat work and SJ but horse is a bit battered from slipping over last week and her collarbone isn't properly mended yet
crazy.gif

Wayhey, keeps you out of trouble then girl
wink.gif
tongue.gif

And as for the numpty rider thing, mmmm, think they could have chosed a whole lot worse than you
tongue.gif
smirk.gif

Many congrats, hope you won't need 5 nosebands like David Green did on Chatsby

Be careful what you wish for young lady!
wink.gif
I might try the opposite of the MW/OT trick and see if my horse looks better ridden by a semi-amateur-pro (you) instead of a clueless-numpty-amateur (me)!

I have multiple metalwork available here though you might find yourself pleasantly surprised. MW's horses always seem to look very strong and well bitted - surely they can't ALL need it??
confused.gif

Well done on the jumping front - I agree with you about big horses needing to have big arenas so that they can move forwards softly and happily between fences (I say their brain is a bit far from their legs for all those tight distances but maybe I'm not being very charitable!
tongue.gif
).
On that basis I'm off to sample the delights of Bishop Burton's new, apparently huge, indoor tomorrow though I think I'll leave the 1.20 for now, ta v much!

No lager or ploughman's here yet, think your delivery system must have failed
mad.gif
- better send a pint though in case some gets spilt on the way
tongue.gif
grin.gif

Oi!! You didnt tell me there was going to be another horse to be pole putter-upper/polo dispenser/generaly dogsbody for
mad.gif
tongue.gif
heehee.... Busy season for you then... sure it will be a fab one
grin.gif

Bigger lorry kit279, I'm not sure my newly-learned HGV skills are up to anything bigger.
crazy.gif
Would be great for parties though.
grin.gif

BBs I'm definitely up for it now that I'm out of hibernation - shopping I mean, not letting you have Marty.
mad.gif

sachak, you'll get my sympathy every time, although I do feel sorry for our huge horses as there's a lot to organise and it can't be easy for them.
blush.gif

Five nosebands wizoz?
shocked.gif
I've still got the controller noseband that William used to wear (yes, my lazy Cleveland Bay cross was strong on occasions
wink.gif
) so I'll try that for starters.

Gamebird it wasn't me wishing, it was BBs wishing to see me on Monty.
confused.gif
Sorry about the delivery probs but they've run out of lager now (huge sigh of relief in N Yorkshire that there isn't a mad, drunken vet out on her rounds).
tongue.gif
Report back on your BB outing won't you?

S_J I doubt I'll get bored, just knackered.
frown.gif
Who would you like, sorry that they're all boys though.

I didn't want to scare you with the thought of all the ponies you'll be pandering to. And there's Jupiter aka the Yeti/Swamp Monster and his BYEH classes, and Arthur with his working hunter classes. Are you scared yet?

indeed! athough since he has been back in work i cant say he has been the most careful HH coupled with a numpty pilot he doesnt stand a chance!

you dont want another one do you???

Glutten for punishment comes to mind!! LOL!

Bog Tank will be finished with his "ironmongery" at the end of the month if you wish to borrow again? Though might have Lucca running for the hills! Can you point him in this direction!
Also I have 'that' other bit from America which is just gathering dust at the mo!

Ooooh, yes please to the magic ironmongery and whatever else you've got stashed away. I need to come up your way to check on what baby Baydales Mrs F has got stashed away - could meet you there?

You're nuts! I've got one to ride and an indoor school to ride it in if it's a bit nasty outdoors atm
grin.gif
. Hurrah for HH's first effort at a 120, having done it at MF everywhere else it will be easier, and a nice outdoor BE Novice track will be easy peasy! Where are the two big boys going first?

When you're my age I think they call it "mildly eccentric".
blush.gif

Big boys are going to Isleham (flat, peaty, not too meaty) for IN and OI, then 3 weeks later ie. enough time to make half-cocked effort at fixing any not so good bits
tongue.gif
, Gt Witchingham (not so flat, not at all peaty, much more meaty apparently) for HH's first I and H doing AI.

How did the project shopping go btw? Any new playmates for the only child William?
wink.gif

Will requailfy above statement, and Intermediate track is still going to look easy peasy with his 120 practice! I've applied for Compiegne, and planning on W just having one Int. standard run before it.

I went project shopping, one had the biggest capped hocks I've ever seen (and didn't like its eyes, v important for me), might put the vid up if I have time tonight. Other one was extremely petite, nothing of her, covered in terrible rainscald, lovely temperant, but shape of her hooves was rather off-putting, so going to keep looking!

I hope you're right; HH said he can jump big fences but ideally he'd like more than one straight stride to be able to get all his legs in the right place.
smirk.gif
That's cool re W going to Compiegne, will keep everything crossed for you nearer the time.

Horse shopping is a nightmare, I don't envy you at all.
