My horse has arthritis, he’s fully retired and been on one bute a day for the summer. Vet has just been for his check and prescription, he looks ok in walk but in trot he’s not comfortable (he doesn’t really trot in the field, he will walk or canter) his back legs are stiff and he’s slightly lame on one front leg

The vet has said I can give him 1.5 Bute a day if I want, to have a bit more effect.

I’m looking at putting him on a supplement alongside it but google seems unsure if you can mix or not. Looks like devils claw should not be fed with Bute, but I’m thinking maybe yumove or boswelia.

Does anyone have experience/know what might be safe

How old and how big?
If old or particularly large one bute twice a day can be helpful.
Boswellia can also be fed safely with bute.
I have seen people raving about CBD aswell, although it made no difference with mine

Mine was on one bute split across two feeds and a joint supplement which also had boswelia. I’ve now moved her onto devils claw and the joint supplement. Vet was involved in both decisions and supportive - I think it’s a case of trial and error to see what works to get them comfortable.

Boswellia is excellent, just make sure you get the one with the highest percentage of boswellic acid. I would highly reccomend the Forage Plus one!
