BUTE and competition

We were supposed to do a short endurance, 20km, tomorrow. The horse was given some BUTE on Thursday and vet says we cannot compete as he will test positive.

What is the time frame between giving anti-inlammatory and neg test please? so I know for the future. We would not have not treated him.
 
I think it is still detectable in the blood for approx 14 days after administration. Even though it won't be effective, it would still show up on a test.

Depends on the anti-inflammatory. Bute/Danilon can be detected for up to 7 days (hence 8 day withdrawal as glenruby said), ketofen can be detected for up to 4 days (so 5 day withdrawal), and metacam detected up to 3 days (so 4 day withdrawal). Full list can be found on the FEI website below:

Thanks for the info on withdrawal times. The bigger question for me though is what is causing the pain to arise in the first place. Sorry to bang on about it. :)
