Bute for sale on ebay!

I've given (sold) left over to Danilon to friends who have oldies on 1/2 sachet a day or similar. Suited both of us and would do same again if I had a load.

Why is it that vets give out those great big long boxes of Danilon when horse is insured

With my old uninsured horse I only ever bought the exact number of sachets required!

You can take any unused medication to a pharmacy where they will destroy it.

Despite good intentions of passing it on the charities etc, is that the recipient doesn't know if the medication may have been altered due to adverse storage conditions etc.

It does seem a waste, I agree.

I know that after my dad died, the pharmacy destroyed many £100s worth of treatment that mum had been keeping (in the correct conditions, i.e. in the fridge) at home.

Here in France, my vet will only provide anti inflammatories for three days, so there is never any left over for "just in case."

You'll probably find that the ones that have all this left over are for horses who have a bute a day due to arthritis etc

Hence why they get given huge boxes, I wouldn't be happy having to keep getting a vet out to keep prescribing bute every few days when there on it long term.

This, mine is on a danilon a day, when I ran out last time a friend had some she no longer used (used to have her horse on danilon but had tried cartrophen and it was working for her) so I bought her leftovers
I wouldn't buy leftovers off some-one I didn't know but it helped her out & helped me out whilst I arranged another prescription.
I've just had to order more steroids for mine but knew I wouldn't use even half what I normally order for him and so requested the vets sold me a smaller quantity (he's being pts at the end of summer) and they were quite happy to oblige. I'm fairly sure I will have half a box of danilon going too but buying half a box at vets price isn't really any cheaper than buying a whole box online and it's handy stuff to have 'just incase' so I don't mind that tbh.
I've taken unused/expired medicine to a pharmacy before & they've just disposed of it so guess vets may do the same but agree it can be a waste.

I had a couple of weeks worth of Pracend left over when my horse was PTS so I gave it to one of the other liveries as her pony was also treated with it anyway. I also had a fifty or so phenobarbitone tablets left too and forgot to ask the vet to take them away when he left, so dropped them off at my nearest small animal surgery, explained why I had them, why I didn't need them any more and asked them to destroy the tablets. They are very dangerous and needed to be disposed of properly.
