Does anyone know how long it takes from a horse eating a sachet of Bute to when it has its maximum effect and how long before it starts to wear off. Ta.

Anyone? All it is is that a friend's ancient pony is on daily Bute and would like to time it so it feels it's best when the grandkids are being led round on it.

I think it's only about a day or 2 for full effect and up to a week to fully wear off. Depending on loading dosage etc.
She was wondering if it made a difference if pony got it in the morning or just before the kids came. It's just old and stiff but is only getting fussed and walked about.

I give my 26 year old gelding one sachet of bute with his breakfast at 7.30 am. He is comfortable to ride at 10 am. The effects last quite a while but if you forget to give it one day, the next day you will see a difference. If you need a vet visit then you need to stop the medication for a few days so that it doesn't give a false impression.
